911. Make Your Own Pork Glitter  Bass Fishing
To make your own glitter pork buy some glitter (whatever type you prefer) and add it to the pork jar. Now you have glittered pork for a cheap price. Try the glow and the peppered. These two seem to work best for me.

912. Which Dock to Choose?  Freshwater
Thousands of docks on a lake, which one holds the answer. Not all are created equal in terms of their fish holding potential. Several characteristics create an ideal target. A dock with piling is better then those floating. A dock with wood is better then one made of metal. Seach for docks that are adjacent to deep water. Also weed growth around or under the dock helps. Choose docks that have a surface area sufficiently above the water line so you can skip bait under the dock. Look for older docks with good barnacle or algae growth because they provide nutrients for the baitfish that attract bigger fish.

913. Plastic Lipped Crankbaits Getting Damaged?  Bass Fishing
Use metal lipped crankbaits in rock filled water. This way you wont damage alot of them. Plastic lips tend to chip and run off-tune or even crack.

914. Add more wiggle to Your Rapala  Bass Fishing
If you bend the eye on a rapala up it will make the lure have more wiggle. If you bend it down it will have less wiggle. DON'T FORCE THE EYE IF IT DOESN'T WANT TO GO EASY.

915. Tuning a Buzz-bait  Bass Fishing
The correct way to tune a buzz-bait is to put it in front of a fan and bend the blades till you get them spinning the fastest. Then your done.

LBF Member: eat_sleep_fish
916. Stronger Split-rings  General Fishing
Need stronger spit-rings? Try soldering the ring till it is one piece. This will make it twice as strong.

LBF Member: eat_sleep_fish
917. Split-rings Cutting Your Line?  General Fishing
When tying a lure that has split-rings. Never put the line inti the V. This will cause your line to break. If it tends to move, glue the line to the round part of the split-ring.

918. Get Your Spinnerbaits to Helicopter  Bass Fishing
Shorten the shafts on your spinnerbaits to get them to helicopter. This is a deadly technique used in cover and bluff walls.

LBF Member: eat_sleep_fish
919. Custom Pork Trailers  Bass Fishing
Want custom pork trailers? Use chamois cloths and cut your own pattern. Use a scissor or razor blade and cut your own, saving you alot of money and a better pattern for you.

920. Fixing Swim Baits  General Fishing
If your swim baits get bent and out of wack. Dont fret. Boil some water put them in for a minute or two pull them out and lay flat. Good as new.

921. Super Braid Going Bad?  General Fishing
How do you tell if your super braid is going bad (this won't work if your using it in the salt). After about four years of use the line starts to leave a dust residue in your fingers when it's dry. That means it is time to replace.

922. Great Catfishing Spots  Freshwater
Want to find a great catfishing spot? Look for the birds. Litterally. Look for commarants perched in the trees and fish under where all the turds hit the water, channel cats love it. They think its real food. Well I guess it is just refried food. Ha ha, this has worked for me.

LBF Member: eat_sleep_fish
923. Underwater Cameras  Freshwater
I dont care how many people say underwater cameras are no good. Tell me how to find and read cover underwater better. So don't feel ashamed when you catch more fish understanding how the fish relate to this underwater structure.

LBF Member: eat_sleep_fish
924. Water Temps  Freshwater
For early spring follow the highest water temps for more action. These fish will be more agressive. Surface temp is only a starter try temps below surface for better readings. Radio shack has a temp probe for about 10 bucks that comes with 15ft of cable great for this kind of work.

925. Trolling speed  Boating
When trolling use a rpm guage on your motor because there are too may variables. Also you might want to try a low speed mph guage. Remember, current adds or detracts from trolling speed, and waves also cause a fluctuation.

LBF Member: eat_sleep_fish
926. Dam Fishing  Freshwater
During early spring run off try this. After any extra rain catfish seem to congregate below dams. Also I have seen other gamefish do the same so make it a point to go fishing after a rain, just go below a dam.

LBF Member: eat_sleep_fish
927. Crankbait depth  Bass Fishing
Adjust the depth of your crankbaits not by speed. Speed only makes it rise in the water column. Use lighter line for more depth and heavier line for less depth.

LBF Member: eat_sleep_fish
928. Slowing down your trolling speed  Boating
When trolling and you can't get the boat to slow down enough try a wind sock or a bucket to slow you down. Just tie it on the cleat in the rear. Some sea anchors are adjustable so now you can even play with the amount of slow down.

929. Catfish Fishing  Freshwater
Prepare a can by filling it with dog or cat food and poke holes in the lid. A couple hours before you go fishing throw it in the water. You could even leave it over night, or for a day if you plan to fish at night. Cast near the area of the pet food, as many fish have gathered because of the smell.

930. My favorite bass lure  Bass Fishing
I like the topwater baits. Not only does it work but it is a thrill watching the bass jump in the air when it comes up to get it. I use it mostly for Largemouth bass.

LBF Member: drunkbass
931. Catfish Bait  Freshwater
Catfish love nightcrawlers and chicken liver. But don't use a bobber, because catfish are bottom dwellers.

LBF Member: drunkbass
932. Lure Size  Bass Fishing
When fishing in clear and are getting few strikes, always size down a lure size or two from the type you normally use. Try sizing up when fishing in stained or muddy water.

LBF Member: Scott
933. Carp Fishing  Freshwater
Catching carp, try putting a egg slip weight on the top. Then put a swivel so the egg weight could slide. Then put a 1 foot leader with a size 8 or 6 hook.

LBF Member: nozr
934. Setting with braided lines  General Fishing
Do not use the 'cross there eyes' set when fishing with braided lines. It is much to powerfull because of the zero strech of the line. A tug is all that is needed, a few more if you think you have a world record on your hands.

LBF Member: Scott
935. Golf course ponds  Freshwater
If you don't have any ponds near bye, but live near a golf course, you may want to try some of there ponds and rivers. Make sure that you ask the owner first, they may make you fish after hours, when the fishing can be at its best anyway. I have caught bullhead, catfish, carp, and bass in golf course ponds. Because of the lack of fishing pressure, they can be very productive, Give them a try!

LBF Member: Scott
936. Don't know what to do with carp?  Freshwater
If you find that carp are over taking you favorite fishing hole, catch them by angling, which is more humane then spearing them, and use them as cut bait for more carp or catfish. Small chunks will also work as chum. This should help thin out the carp population in your pond and make more room for bass!

LBF Member: Scott
937. Auger scaring fish  Ice Fishing
It is best to make the hole(s) and then come back a few hours later. By then the fish should have returned. If the hole is freezing over, leave a black garbage bag over the hole and snow to hold down the edges. The sun on the dark bag will keep it from freezing.

LBF Member: Scott
938. Photography  General Fishing
If you plan to take pictures of fish you catch, make sure you bring along a fishing buddy to take the pictures. Make sure he/you are ready so that the fish is returned to the water as soon as possible. Use the same method when weighing fish with a scale.

LBF Member: Scott
939. Reel Maintenance  General Fishing
Clean and re-lube your reels at least once a year and more so in a dusty climate. Clean every time after fishing in saltwater. This will ensure reliable performance from your reel.

LBF Member: Scott
940. Fishing nets  General Fishing
A good material for fishing nets is rubber. It is strong, will not tangle at all, won't hurt the fish, and the good quality ones will even with stand abuse from the sun.

LBF Member: Scott
941. Flies on spinning geat for panfish  Freshwater
When fishing off a dock or a bridge in a clear body of water that isn't very deep, tie a dry fly onto your spinning gear and just let it sit. Mosquito patterns work well, and you don't even need a fly rod.

LBF Member: Scott
942. Spinner Bait Trailers 2  Freshwater
To add a trailer hook to a spinner bait, tie a long-shanked hook onto a piece of line, and then attach the opposite end of the line to the hook on the spinner bait. The barb on the main hook will keep the line from sliddind off. Make sure the eyeholoe tailer hook is atleast an inch away from the bottom of the main hook. Attach the head of a grub to the main hook, and then attached the lower part onto the trailer hook.

LBF Member: Scott
943. Spinnerbaits Trailers 1  Freshwater
When the fish are hitting short, add a grub onto the hook so that the bass have a better chance of sucking in the bait. Trailer hooks may be needed.

LBF Member: Scott
944. Clear water 1  Freshwater
In clear water try to find submerged wood. Old rotted docks are great producers. These area often hold lots of dig perch, rock bass, gill, and smaller bass. Just cast small, weightless worms over the stucture, of along the bottom nearbye.

LBF Member: Scott
945. Bluegill Tactics 2  Freshwater
In late or early afternoon, cast small (1/16) inline spinners near the shore. My personal favorite is a silver Panther Martin with a thined-out red/orange rooster tail.

LBF Member: Scott
946. Bluegill Tactics 1  Freshwater
For large, finiky gills, try using crickets on a small, long-shanked hook under a small bobber. Make sure any weights attached are light because a finiky bluegill will let go at the slightest resistance.

LBF Member: Scott
947. Cricket keeper  Freshwater
Crickets are an excellent bait for bluegill. Keep crickets in a aquarium or other clear container with a screen lid. When fed with cut fruits such as apples, they will live for months. Don't forget water!

LBF Member: Scott
948. Carp Fishing  Freshwater
Carp are excellnet fighters. Try using a treble hook, with a single piece of sweet corn on each barb. If legal in your area, use more sweet corn as chum to attract fish.

LBF Member: Scott Alblas
949. Line  Ice Fishing
It is important to use mono specifically made for ice fishing. Braided lines work just as well since they do not absorb any water.

LBF Member: Scott
950. Augar  Ice Fishing
If you are going to buy an augar get the right size for the fish your going to catch. Don't get a 4" hole for northrens.

LBF Member: LouisWi
951. Minnows  General Fishing
If your minnows are dead, they will not attract fish fast, so slice there guts open to get smell and looks to them. To help catch fish.

LBF Member: LouisWi
952. Landing trophys  Freshwater
When landing fish you are going to mount, don't net them. Use a pair of neopreme gloves and grab them, the net destroys there fins.

LBF Member: LouisWi
953. Night fishing with tip ups  Ice Fishing
When night fishing with tip ups have a little light attached to it that signals you when you have a flag.

LBF Member: LouisWi
954. Bite detecters  Ice Fishing
Very good tool to have when fish are biting light, it picks up any little tap and doesn't apply any pressure back.

LBF Member: LouisWi
955. Minnows  Ice Fishing
When ice fishing for any fish with minnows, hook them in the tail to get more action out of them, encourages more bites.

LBF Member: LouisWi
956. Fishing with rapalas  Bass Fishing
Since bass don't have big teeth. Instead of using a leader just use a swivle instead, makes your bait more active.

LBF Member: Louiswi
957. Muskie fishing  Freshwater
Never stop your retrieve until you have the bait out of the water, fish can strike at any time.

LBF Member: LouisWi
958. Keeping depth  Ice Fishing
Use a slip bobber knot to remember your depth of fishing.

LBF Member: LouisWi
959. River Suckers  Freshwater
When looking for suckers look for clouds or dust. That is the dust from the group of suckers feeding then fish for them.

LBF Member: LouisWi
960. Muddy water  Bass Fishing
When faced with muddy water, a rule of thumb is to fish in 2 to 5 feet of water and stay near the bank. Bass in muddy water will almost always be positioned shallow. Since muddy-water bass depend almost entirely on hearing sound and detecting vibration, use bulkier lures that displace water, creating more vibration. Good muddy-water choices are a big shallow-diving crankbait, large bladed spinnerbait, bulky jig-and-pork combination, buzzbait and fat plastic worms.

The only times when muddy water is almost impossible to overcome is when it is cold.

LBF Member: LouisWi

961. Shallow water muskies  Freshwater
Muskies are more likely to be in shallow water on windy, overcast days, and in the evening or during the night.

LBF Member: Leew
962. Substitute salmon eggs  Freshwater
A good subistute for salmon eggs is a yellow or orange cheese such as cheddar. Roll some of the cheese into small balls and put 2 or 3 on the hook.

LBF Member: Leew
963. Quick catfish bait  Freshwater
A quick, handy catfish bait which often works is a cube of soap on the hook. Simply cut the soap into small cubes and put them on the hook.

LBF Member: Leew
964. Making Minnows Livelier  Freshwater
To make a minnow livelier and more active in the water, cut part of the tail off with a pair of scissors. The minnow will have a more difficult time staying up right and this crippled action will attract game fish fast.

LBF Member: Leew
965. Rig for walleye fishing  Freshwater
A good combination bait for walleyes is a jig and a minnow. simply hook a live or dead minnow through the lips with the jig and cast out to bump it along the bottom.

LBF Member: Leew
966. Making tackle box silent  General Fishing
Glue a thick sheet of cork to the bottom of your tackle box. This will protect the box from wet spots, sliding, and making noise in the boat which will frighten the fish.

LBF Member: Leew
967. Surface baits  General Fishing
surface bass bugs and plugs should have extra sharp hooks in order to hook striking fish. Carry a hook sharpener such as a small stone or file and use it on the dull points.

LBF Member: Leew
968. Worm fishing  Bass Fishing
When fishing rocky or weedy areas, rig plastic worms or eels with light wire hooks and use an 8-lb. test line on your spinning reel. Then, when you get hung up on the bottom, a steady pull will straighten out the hook and you will save your worm. light wire hooks can be bent back into shape and they will still land a good-sized bass if he swallows the worm.

LBF Member: Leew
969. Fishing in Stumps  General Fishing
When fishing in stumps, make sure that you have a snag pole or something that can get snags out. Trust me it will save you alot of money and lures.

LBF Member: Leew
970. Bullheads  Freshwater
When you catch a bullhead make sure you have a pair of pliers with you because these fish will bite back. And it hurts.

LBF Member: Leew
971. Musky fishing on bottom with minnows  Freshwater
Make sure that you watch your pole real close, or it will be in the water. (I know from my brother's pole almost going in)

LBF Member: Leew
972. Winter Bass Fishing/Ice fishing  Freshwater
I've been waiting for some warm weather to hit so the ice on all our ponds would break up, well it never happened.

So I took a huge rock and tossed off the dock as far as I could. The rock broke through the the thin ice giving me a large enough hole to flip a jig in. I used a bright yellow jig head with a blue skirt tied about 18 inches below a bobber. Tossed it out and gave it a twitch every few seconds. The suspended jig worked pretty good for it being so cold. I really wasn't expecting to catch anything but to my surprise caught 3 small bass. The only problem was the edge of the hole tearing up my line when I reeled in my lure.

973. Always Sharpen those hooks  General Fishing
Most anglers either don't want to or forget to sharpen their hooks. Every time you get snagged you should check your hook to see if it needs sharpening. This will really improve your hook ups.

LBF Member: eat_sleep_fish
974. Slimy Buggars  General Fishing
When you catch a fish on a lure you should rub its scent on it. This will make your lure smell real.

LBF Member: basshawg
975. Repairing missing Cork from Rods.  Freshwater
If you own some good rods, but due to use and old age, pieces of the cork are missing from the butt portion, and/or foregrip, an easy way to fix them is to grind up some corks from wine, champagne bottles, etc, and mix it with some adhesive, then fill it in the missing holes, and presto, your old rods are in good shape for another year.
