1106. Tip for fishing Carolina Rig  Bass Fishing
When fishing the carolina rig you will get a better hookset by making a sideways sweeping motion with the rod, rather than the typical upward hookset.

1107. Make your batteries last longer  Boating
When you come home from a fishing trip you should make sure your battery is run down. As soon as you get home you should also charge your batteries fully. You will want to use a slow batterie charger for a marine batterie. Also you will want to make sure your terminels are full. If not, fill them up with some tap water. These tips will make your batteries last much longer.

1108. Add a little air for more hits  Freshwater
A quick tip that can aid in your bass catch is to take a needle and inject air into your baits. It works great on soft plastics and adds just a little extra bouyancy to bring up those hungry bass.

1109. Bubbling for Bass  Freshwater
I have a technique that I have used when the bass are sluggish. I will take a spinnerbait with lare willow leaf or colorado blades and alter the blades to stimulate moving baitfish or crawfish. I will take the blades off the spinnerbait and drill multiple holes through the blade with a small drill bit. This will cause a massive ammount of bubbles and water disruption to occur. You can use this technique to the most when letting the lure drop in deeper water, twitch it slightly and the bubbles and extra vibration will kick in. It has worked when other lures have failed.

1110. Jig Tactics for Big Bass  Freshwater
I catch more big bass on jigs than any other lure in my tackle box. I use a 3/8 oz rattle back jig tipped with a 3-4 inch grub trailer. The best color pattern I have found is a white jig tipped with a firetail grub normally black with a pink or red fire tail. Fish the jig slowly, but instead of just jigging the bait reel it at a slow but steady pace like a spinnerbait let the grub trailer do the work and you will be amazed at how many bass will go nuts.

1111. Killer Catfish Bait # 3  Freshwater
I love to catch big catfish and one of the best techniques is to catch large grasshoppers and cover them with a mixture of brown sugar and orange soda. Take a mixing bowl and use a 16 oz bottle of orange soda and mix with brown sugar until it becomes a thick syrup like sauce. Then take the mixture and pour into a ziplock bag filled halfway with large grasshoppers. Freeze the mixture and the next time you go to fish let the bait thaw out and the grasshoppers will be covered with the thick syrup and the fish will go nuts for it. I have used this bait multiple times and have never been shutout on a catfishing trip.

1112. Killer Catfish Bait # 2  Freshwater
Another great technique to catching catfish is to add a scent to it that will bring em in from the depths. The best technique I have found to call them in is to add garlic powder and onion powder to the liver. Pour the livers into a container and add garlic powder and onion powder to the livers, shake thoroughly and let sit overnight. The flavors will be locked in and it will attract the fish. I have sampled other scents as well, but this seems to work the best

LBF Member: dwaynez
1113. Killer Catfish Bait  Freshwater
I love to catfish and the primary bait of choice is fresh chicken livers. I have found a trick that will keep the liver on the line when having to make long casts. Everyone has had the experience of casting and losing your liver and having to rebait. I have found a way around that.

First take fresh liver and place it in a large tub, cover the liver with cinnamon and brown sugar. Shake the container thoroughly and make sure the liver is covered completely. Let the livers sit in the fridge over night or in the sun for a day. The livers will harden and all the sweet flavors of the cinnamon and brown sugar will be locked in. It is a killer for catfish and the liver will not fly off the hook when making a long cast.

1114. Tube Bait Tactics  Freshwater
Have you ever used a tube bait and you want to add an attractant to the bait but it just seems ot trail off and not stick with the bait. The solution is to cut strips of sponges and pre soak them in your favorite attractant and insert them into the tube. The easiest way to make sure they stay is to add a few small drops of super glue and they will stay in place for a long day of fishing. You wont have to add an attractant as often and if you need to add just pour the attractant straight onto the sponge.

1115. A good way to catch different types fish with the same bait  Freshwater
To catch a variety of spieces including bluegills, perch, crappie, and even small largemouths, try hooking on a live worm and fishing it off the bottom. Use a split shot or two. Throw it out there, sit back, and watch the line for hits. This teqnique works best on hot summer evenings as the sun goes down.

LBF Member: bassmasta
1116. Live salys?  Bass Fishing
Yes live salamanders. Terrific for largemouth. If you live near woods you can go and look under damp rocks and wood. They are very easy to find. Hook them through the lips top to bottom. You can fish them on a float or of the bottom. When fished off the bottom you may hook into a monster carp. I prefer fishing off the bottom with them.

LBF Member: Bassmasta
1117. Swimming a Jig for mid summer action  Bass Fishing
Next time you pull out your favorite jig in summer try swimming it instead of working the bottom with it. You can achieve this by not letting it hit the bottom, and jig it a couple times. It doesnt matter what kind of tralor. When you get a hit try not to set the hook too anxiously. When you get a hit STOP every thing, LOWER the rod tip, then count 1,2,3 SET IT!

LBF Member: bassmasta
1118. Unusual Jig, incredible results  Bass Fishing
In mid summer try a 3/8 ounce jig with a lizard and centipede trailor. You first cut off the head of a lizars wid good flashy speck in it. Slip it on like any other trailor. Then take a centipede and hook it onto the hook wacky style. This will give the jig an eratic fall like a senko, and a good flash wieh the lizard. This is a big bass lure.

1119. Make your trolling motor run STRONGER and l o n g e r  Boating
First of all, you want to remove your prop and make sure the drive pin is straight. If it is not go to your local boating store and buy a new one, they are very inexpensive. Also, you might want to check your prop for noticable chips and scratches along the edges. If there are many of these, you may want to sand down the edges and make it smooth. This will keep your prop from getting caught up in weeds. These tips will help your trolling motor run faster stronger and longer. Remember dont be lazy and take good care of your stuff and it will take good care of you ;)

1120. BIG HAWGS IN WEEDS  Bass Fishing
Have you ever been prevented to fish your favorite spots because of that mid-summer gunk on the surface? Use this to your advantage. Pull your boat(If you don't have a boat too bad)into the center of it and cast your favorite color senko waky rigged into the patches of water. Fish it very slowly because when the surface is covered with gunk there isnt a lot of oxygen causing the bass to be a lttle lethargic. You will kill some fish in there. I garentee you will catch atleast 5 good fish a day. This is a sure spot to fish in a tournament and fill your well.

1121. Feedin'n Frenzy Bass Action  Bass Fishing
Ever see those little shad or other baitfish jumpin around in one area? It's probably because there's a feeding frenzy occuring there. Take a 3/4-1/2 spinner and retrieve at a steady fast pace near th surface. When doin this you will see the spinner causing little ripples at the surface. This will immitate fleeing baitfish because when bait fish are threatened they swim close to the suface. Try to choose a color similar to the baitfish. I have had a lot of action with this method. Hope you will too. Don't forget fish long and hard.

1122. Scouting a river for hot spots  Freshwater
I found if your fishing a smaller portion of a bigger river, like Rocky River it's good to scout the whole river first when the river is very low. Mark down any deeper holes, fallen trees, or underwater structure like rocks. You should do this late in the season becasue it's usually low then. After you scout the river try and fish the deeper holes in it when the season starts up again in mid-spring or early summer. Or you could still fish all year round at tose deeper holes because even in winter, holes hold fish. So go check out your local river or lake when it's very low and see what you find.

1123. a good catfish bait  Freshwater
One good catfish bait is the marshmallow and a mealworm combo. Here's how it works: You should get some mini marsh-mallows (white) and put a lot of powedered garlic on them until they get yellow put about 2-3 marshmallows on a size 1-2 hook and at the tip put a mealworm.

LBF Member: kaze
1124. A Good Catfish Trick  Freshwater
You should use 6-8 pound line for catfish under 4 pounds, because the catfish won't see the line and you would get more bites. But reel in slowly or not your line will rip if you pull too hard. Use a size 1-2 hook.

LBF Member: kaze
1125. Maggots and Steelhead?  Freshwater
Yes, maggots! Surprisingly to me magggots are one of the best ways to catch steelhead. What you do is tied on a 1'16 oz black bait holding jighead. Tip it with 1-2 maggots and throw it out there. Retreive slowly and you'lll have yourself a monster soon !

LBF Member: FisherGuy2004
1126. Crazy steelhead  Freshwater
I found if you throw out a small blue and orange rapala steelhead go nuts ! Really ! I had three fish in 30 minutes all over 24" ! It was amazing you should try it sometime.

1127. Winter activites  Freshwater
If you aren't a die hard fisherman and don't go out in the dead cold 20 degree snow of winter I have some tips for you. One, start getting ready for spring. Get you tackle all cleaned up and hooks sharpened. Two, go find some new places to fish. Drive around and write down some more places you could fish next spring. Lastly, sleep ! I'm a die hard fisherman and I know I get no sleep at all. Winter is my best chance to get rest.

1128. Fish in Ohio  Freshwater
Of of the funny things about fishing in rivers and lakes in Ohio is that it's not textbook fishing/ Fish could be anywhere and the perfect place isn't always going to have fish in it? Your best bet is to use live bait it seems to work better.

LBF Member: FisherGuy2004
1129. Best Plastic Baits  Bass Fishing
In my experience some of the best soft baits are the Exude worms. They catch a wide variety of fish and can be used under any conditions. Go out and try one today!

LBF Member: FisherGuy2004
1130. Big Bluegill  Bass Fishing
One of the best ways to catch big bluegill in the fall/winter is to focus around deep structure. I usually use a 1/16 oz. jighead with a berkley power grub on it. It produces very well under cold water conditions. I've caught up to 40 bigger bluegill this way!

LBF Member: FisherGuy2004
1131. Early Morning Smallmouth  Bass Fishing
I find if you get up at 4:00 am and go down to your local river, it's good fishing ! Usually using in-line spinners like Rooster Tails will work very well.

LBF Member: FisherGuy2004
1132. Funny little fish  Freshwater
One of the most fun (for me at least) is small rainbows. They're easy to catch and easy to find. All you have to do is put a small red/orange salmon egg on a #8 hook under a float and throw it in there. Within no time you'll have a happy little fish on your line.

LBF Member: FisherGuy2004
1133. Big Smallies  Bass Fishing
The best way to get big smallmouths in the warmer months is to tie on a #6 hook through a minnow. Use a jerk and stop retrieve and you'll have one in no time!

LBF Member: FisherGuy2004
1134. bluegills  Freshwater
You might want to consider the following when fishing for bluegills. You might want to use long shank hooks since bluegills actually swallow the whole thing. Also, get them in a size #6 or 8.

LBF Member: hi man
1135. bluegill  Freshwater
To fish for bluegills the best thing you can do is use worms, because it's the best natural bait you can use.

LBF Member: himan
1136. Power Trolling  Freshwater
Innovation has played a critical role in the relatively new walleye fishery on the Columbia River. The latest tactic, power trolling, is proving to be perhaps the deadliest and most consistent yet for big walleye in the middle stretches of the river. Power trolling is an aggressive strategy, but there is a method to its madness.

1137. St. Croix Rods  Ice Fishing
St. Croix Rod company came out with an avid rod this year, I strongly recomend people to get them, they are worth it and will help in catching more fish.

LBF Member: mattlenz
1138. Dry Fly fishing  Fly Fishing
When fishing with dry flies, don't use flaural carbon line because it will make your fly sink.

LBF Member: mattlenz
1139. catfish  Freshwater
To catch catfish you should get mini marsh mallows and put some powdered garlic over them. Place the 3 marsh mallows on a size 1 or 2 hook at the tip put a meal worm.

LBF Member: CF
1140. catfish  Freshwater
Catfish are usually in the middle of a lake after it rains, so make sure you don't throw your bait so far.

1141. A Cheap ''Make Your Own'' Pole Holder  General Fishing
Cut a piece of lumber (I used a 17" piece of 2x4) to desired lentgh, then a lentgh of PVC pipe (plumbing section of a hardware store) about 7" long ( how ever many pole's you use) attach it to the piece of lumber. Then go to the hard ware section of your supply store and get the rubber coated screw type hook's and screw them into the piece of lumber, attach to the bumper of your truck , car , boat , or suv!

LBF Member: radone29
1142. Minimizing Backlash  General Fishing
After you cast your baitcasting reel, put a piece of electricians tape on the line. That way, if you do get backlash, it can only go back to the piece of tape.

LBF Member: fishermanpaul
1143. Extra Line  General Fishing
Did your reel come spooled with line that you dont want to use right away, but you dont want to throw away?? Now you can keep the line. All you need is an old yo-yo. You can cut the string out of it, and spool your line onto the yo-yo. Then be sure to write down the pound test on a piece of masking tape and stick it to the yo-yo so you can remember the line weight later.

1144. Soft Plastic's Getting more and more Expensive. Now, Repair them..  Freshwater
There is a brand new product on the market called PRO's Soft~Bait Glue. Not everyone uses fishing glue for fishing but, if you use glue, this one is a winner and I've used it to repair Yamamoto Senko's while freshwater fishing to fixing Sassy Shad's while fishing for Stripers. Great on keeping baits on hooks like nothing I've ever used before, instantly. Fantastic on all knots and bonds extremley well on fluorocarbons. It even glues quickly with water all around the soft baits and without fail each and everytime. Now, some people say, yeah, sure right I've tried all those... Not this one you haven't. Take a trip over to www.prosoftbaitglue.com and see for your self. Oh, and it has a No Dry up guarantee. Mine is still liquid since January of this year.

1145. Glue Squid (cut-bait) to your Bottoms Rig hooks??? Yep  Saltwater
Now when you're fishing with Squid for cut bait in saltwater for whatever species, put a drop of PRO's Soft~Bait Glue where the hook pierces the squid and instanteously glues it like nothing else you will ever use. It stays pliable and stays put while fishing with that fleshy bait. And oh, as soon as it enters the water within 5 seconds, it's scentless. I've used it through catching 5 croaker on the Chesapeake Bay until I had to rebait. www.prosoftbaitglue.com

1146. Best Catfish Bait  Freshwater
You will have to mix garlic powder with mini marshmallows. Get the marshmallows and put them on your hook at the tip put a meal worm.
1147. Fouled Lure May Be Blessing In Disguise  Freshwater
The next time you pitch a big muskie plug and it tangles or fouls, don't "horse" it in thinking it's a wasted cast and not attractive to fish. Rather, use a very slow retrieve and/or a "chugging" motion to slowly bring the fouled lure in. Often, big fish will mistake the fouled bait for a hopelessly injured fish, and will come to the surface and strike it -- hard. Horsing a lure in could potentially spook a trophy fish, and ruin your chances even to get it interested in your bait on subsequent casts...

In short, there's simply no such thing as a "wasted" cast when hunting for muskie. You just never know what these big predators will consider.

1148. Fall Lake Turn Over Stripers  Freshwater
When trolling to locate schools of fish, troll 3-6 mph. You'll cover more water therefore increasing your chances.

LBF Member: teasefish
1149. Figure Eighting  Freshwater
When reeling in your lure and your watching that northern pike follow deciding if he's interested, why not try this tip. Keep reeling in at the same speed don't slow down. When you get close to the boat then continue your movement by sticking part of your rod under the water and drawing a wide figure eight until the fish makes his choice to bite. It works for me.

1150. Get Out There  Freshwater
This is one of the best times to fish. So what if it's cold outside. No boats, No jetski's, No pressure. Pick that sunny day and put on that snowmobile suit and enjoy the lake to yourself. The fish are eating all they can. They know it will ice over soon. Remember fall is trophy time. Enjoy the peaceful fishing and have fun. h2o

1151. Bunker for blues  Saltwater
Use bunker for blues, they like chunks. Also you will get variety of species including stripers.

LBF Member: NickBernardo
1152. Stripers  Saltwater
Mackeral has been working for stripers, use chunks, and chunk hooks. I have found that you can catch a variety of fish including stripers.

LBF Member: NickBernardo
1153. Bluefish  Saltwater
When fishing for blues use leaders, and loosen drag, and let the blue take it.

LBF Member: NickBernardo
1154. Spring Large mouth Bass fishing  Freshwater
I have found that the Acme Kastmaster of the 3/4 ounce variety is an excellent choice to catch large mouth. The biggest I have caught with this lure is a 6 lb. Bass.

LBF Member: NickBernardo
1155. Chain Pickeral in ponds  Freshwater
I have found that using a Kastmaster which is of the 3/4 ounce size is the best. I like using the pure silve , but the blue and silver will work just great.

LBF Member: NickBernardo
1156. Stripers Love This  Saltwater
I have been using a Yozuri Crystal Minnow , I have been getting stripers like there is no tommorow. Not only stripers but, Blue fish will hit and run. So, if you want to catch stripers like me give the yozuri crystal Minnow a try , it will cost about $8.00.

LBF Member: NickBernardo
1157. wd40  Freshwater
If you want to cast farther and keep your line limber, use WD40. I use it all the time, especially when I use stone cats. As you probably know, you have to let a fish run with a stone cat before you set the hook.

LBF Member: poppopfishes2002
1158. Topwater Explosions  Freshwater
When fishing topwaters like the SuperSpook always vary your retrieve. If the fish aren't taking the bait with a steady retrieve make the bait pause for a few seconds or make it really flip and splash for a few seconds and then hang on tight.
1159. Faster Fishing  Freshwater
After you start getting into them just do this. PINCH THE BARB. Doing this real makes it so much easier to remove the hook big time. I don't loose fish because of it. Just keep tension on your line. Try it you will be surprised. Alot of times when you get the fish to the side of the boat or shore all you have to do is drop your rod tip and bingo fish swims away now your ready to cast again. Works best when jig fishing or lures with single hooks. Don't think about it just do it. Your welcome h2o

1160. Where to Fish for Bluegills  Freshwater
when fishing for bluegills you might want to watch where you are going to fish because you might find most bluegills in the open parts of a lake you might find them under the docks on a hot day or as deep as 20 feet. You can also find them near rocks and sunken metals, when it's cold it's better if you go fishing for them when the water temperature is about 70-80 degrees.

LBF Member: hi man
1161. Bluegill Tips  Freshwater
When fishing for bluegills it is better if you use live bait ex: worms, crickets, etc. It is always better if you fish the bait under the water and with a bobber. You may catch them with artificial lures, but it is always better with bait. Most bluegill fishing involves a #6-8 long shank hook and a 4-8 puond line.(long shanks are better because they are the easiest to take off)

1162. Striper Swiping  Freshwater
Remember to tie on heavy line 17lb. to at least 20lb. for big, heavy Stripers. The Bassmanfishin

LBF Member: Bassmanfishin
1163. Berkeley Worms  Bass Fishing
If lures aren't working, try getting wormholder hooks and using purple 6 inch power bait worms on a size 2 hook. This is good for largemouths.

LBF Member: FisherRich
1164. Good Catfish Bait  Freshwater
There are some good catfish bait out there, but some are really easier to get, others are not. Strips of beef cut into strips about 5 inches long on a large hook with a weight or two makes an excellent catfish bait. A dab of gravy is usually a great way to add more smell to it and attact catfish to your area.

LBF Member: FisherRich
1165. Walleye Tip  Freshwater
Walleye are very sensitive to light. During the day, they will hang around rockstructures or along weed lines, sometimes in depths over 50 feet. During the night, they will come up and feed only a few feet from the surface. During the night, they are likely to head towards artificial light sources that often attract smaller fish.

LBF Member: FisherRich
1166. Prevent Bass from escaping or trading you seaweed  Bass Fishing
When Bass are hooked, they always go straight to the beds of seaweed or rocks. They often trade you weeds for themselves, which can get very annoying after a while. Upon setting the hook, muscle the fish away from where it's going, which will usually give you a fair fight.

LBF Member: FisherRich
1167. Good Hook Sets  Bass Fishing
When fishing for bass, you want to get a good hook set so that the fish doesn't get away. If you get a bite or feel a strike coming, open the bail and let it take your bait for a second. Then, close the bail, which will cause a great hook set and suprise the fish.

LBF Member: FisherRich
1168. Muskie Tip  Freshwater
When you use a spinnerbait, reel slowly, making little tugs every so often. When the bait gets near your boat, make a figure eight, circle, or dangle it up and down a little. Most muskies will follow it along the way, and make a mad dash at it just before you are about to pull it up. The little extra part at the end almost always triggers a muskie to strike if it has been following it.

LBF Member: FisherRich
1169. Tire out bigger fish for an easier retrieve.  Boating
If you fish from a canoe, kayak, or small boat, there is a method that you can use to have some fun and catch larger fish like catfish or muskies out. If you get a bit, open the bail and let the fish take your bait. As it's swimming, manually close the bail, which should cause a good hook set. This will cause the fish to panic or try to escape. If the fish is deep, wrestle it to a middle depth, then let it swim around for a few minutes. This will often let the not only tire, but it will tow the canoe, which is like a human pulling a car or truck. The fish will quickly tire, allowing you to reel it in more easily.

LBF Member: FisherRich
1170. Prevent snags on rocks or weeds in deep water  Freshwater
Isn't it annoying to lose a trusted lure on a snag on the bottom. A way to prevent it is to use split shots. Place two about six inches ahead of the lure. This will give extra casting power, less sinking time, and will cause the lure to aim it's nose slightly down. This will also cause the hooks to face sideways rather than straight down. It also makes the lure look like a sick or disoriented fish. I have gotten many hits and saved many lures using this metheod.
