Squid cut baits - Glue'em to Hooks? Hmm... Saltwater
After rigging your cut bait squid to your bottom rig or flounder rigs, dab a small drop of PRO's Soft~Bait Glue on the cut bait and toss it directly back in the water to make it cure and become scentless. Keeps the squid soft like new and bait in place through several trout, flounder, croaker and other catches and not your traditional fishing glue for sure! Saves time and money too especially with Charter Captains.

Oiling Your Rods General Fishing
The most commonly used fishing rod can be separated into two pieces. This makes it more versatile and easy to transport. You should always keep the ends of the two pieces the meat each other oily. This will help to protect your rod. Tests show that the best type of oil to use when doing this comes from the sides of your nose. When humans sweat, an oil comes from skin pores. The sides of your nose provide you with tenough of this natural oil to do the job.

Broken Rods General Fishing
When a nice peace of your rod breaks off, whether by a large fish, or an accident, don't try to fix it. This is never a good idea, even if your rod was considerably expensive. Speckled trout are some of the most sought-after saltwater fish in the Gulf coast of the U.S. The most common lure/bait used to catch specks is live minnows or shrimp. Specks love loud prey, therefore crankbaits with rattles stand out and draw attention and action.

Contrasting Colors Saltwater
When fishing for flounder, sea trout, redfish, snapper, etc., anglers tend to use artificial lures with soft-plastic tails and jug heads as hooks (resempling a shrimp or minnow). Try to use contrasting-colored jig heads. If you have a light-colored lure, try using a red jig head. If your lure is dark-colored, use a white jig head. Contrasting colors draw more attention to your lure.

Twist-less Lures General Fishing
If you tie certain lures to your line, they tend to twist your line if you don't use a swivel. But a swivel can throw off the action of the bait, so what I do is rig up a leader of regular mono line, and put a regular swivel on the end of the leader. Then on your pole line, put a snap swivel. This helps prevent twist, and doesn't interfere with the action of the lure as much. Plus, if you keep the leader on the lure, changing lures is easy, just snap on and snap off.

WD-40 for steelhead Freshwater
I know it seems weird, but it seems that wd-40 sprayed on a spawn sack for steelhead helps attract the elusive fish. My dad told me this, but I didn't believe him until I was fishing one day on the river, and I saw an old timer dipping his spawn in a baby food jar, i asked him what it was, and it was wd-40. Sinkerless tip-ups for pike Ice Fishing
I know a lot of guys like to put a lot of weight on their tip ups, but that can limit the amount of travel the bait can have, making it look more fake. I like to leave the line without any sinkers to make it appear more natural, but if the bait keeps swimming back to the hole, I put a little split shot on, just enough to sink it. This seems to be the best way to catch fish on tip-ups.

Bead Chain Eyes Fly Fishing
I can’t speak intelligently about other people’s shopping habits, but I know that I can’t justify buying 10 pairs of bead chain eyes for $1.99. That would last me about a day and I would be back buying more. I recently took a look in a craft store near my home just to see if they had any possible materials I could use for fly tying, and did I ever hit the jackpot. In the back of the store near the button section I found small rolls of all different types of bead chain eyes. They had black; silver and pearl just to name a few. I was worried that they might be a little expensive seeing as you have to buy them buy the meter. Actually it was quite the opposite. It cost me 40 cents a meter (which is approximately 100-120 pairs of eyes). Needless to say I do not think I will ever need to buy bead chain eyes again, check out a craft store near you, you might be pleasantly surprised with what you find. Tight lines and Smooth threads.

Shaping Epoxy Fly Fishing
Ever wonder how some flies get those great looking epoxy bodies or heads, well it is done though epoxy shaping. Epoxying being a 2 part adhesive must first of all be mixed very thoroughly. One mixed and allowed to sit for a few minutes (using 5-minute epoxy) the epoxy will start to gel (solidify). If you apply the epoxy to your fly at this point you will be able to manipulate it into the shape you want with your fingers. Before just digging in with you hands you will need some type of a barrier to keep the epoxy from sticking to you. Kodak makes a great product called photo-flo (can be found at camera shops) that will keep the epoxy off your fingers and allow you to smooth or shape the epoxy anyway you want. Another product that will help to keep the epoxy off your fingers is Jet Dry (for your dishwasher). A couple drops of this stuff mixed with a little water will keep the epoxy on your fly and of you. Not Giving Up on Steelhead Fly Fishing
When out for a day steelhead fishing there are many factors that can have influence over ones ability to catch quality fish time an time again. One important factor to becoming a better steelhead fisherman is to understanding their feeding behavior. When presenting flies to steelhead I have seen countless people cast above a good hole and drift the fly till it just passes over the hole then pick it up and cast it to the beginning or the run all over again. Steelhead are a species of fish that like to follow flies for great lengths before viciously taking them. Many strikes come right at the very end of the swing so by stopping swings early to put the fly back over what looks to be the prime spot you could be missing fish that were trailing you fly. Lost Opportunities Fly Fishing
A quick tip to help fisherman catch more fish while fishing still water is to always remember to keep there rod tip low near the waters surface when retrieving one’s fly. By keeping the rod tip low you are eliminating substantial slack line from being created. Keeping slack line from forming is important to fly fisherman because it retards presentation of flies (during stripping) and causes missed strikes due to decreased sensitivity. home made herring rig Saltwater
You need 6 untied porgy hooks aluminum foil, super glue and beeds. First, you tie the hooks and cut the line to about six inches long. Next, you slide the beads on after that. You take the aluminum foil and super glue it around the top of the hook. Now you need a four foot piece of line to attach the hooks too. BIG blues on a pier Saltwater
For this you may need a tide chart. Since blue fish are such great swimmers they usually feed when the bait is being dragged straight to them in the incoming tide. Your best bet is to use a live shad or baby bunker. Cast it out into the incoming tide about 20 to 30 feet. When you do that your bait will come in with the tide making the blue believe that it is struggling to get through those rough under currents just like the others. Weakfish Tactics (sea trout) Saltwater
Weakfish are not a difficult fish to catch. You will need some sand worms, a one ounce sinker, and a size 6 snelled hook. First, you take the sand worm head through the hook and slide the worm up until it covers the hook. When the hook is covered, slide the hook through the bottom of the worm. If you do this right you should see the tail hang off the curve of the hook. When casting, only cast about 10 to 15 feet out, wait until it hits bottom. When it hits bottom set the drag. This is more effective at low tide and be careful don't let this fishes name fool you he is not weak but he will rip his mouth in an attempt to escape so bring a net. cordel age 14 from canarsie pier

When fluke fishing artificial bait use an all white swirltail grub or an all white power shad and a 1/4 to a1/2 inch lead head. At high tide bounce the lure up and down off the sea floor then jirk it 2 to 3 times. Since fluke are flat and have eyes on one side stay as close to the bottom as you possibly can if they see it they will be attracted. Longlining for blues Saltwater
It's true that bluefish, when they're around and hungry, will eat just about anything. But, when chunking off the bottom sometimes there's lots of competition from shore in the form of follow fishermen and swimming schools of bait. "Longlining" gives you an edge here. A longline is 3 to 4 ft. steel leader with up to 5 hooks evenly strung along its length. I offset them from the leader 2" with simple knots to minimize tangles. The rig requires a long, heavy rod and a good strong-arm cast to heave the baited line out any distance and usually needs a 2-3 oz. sinker on a fishfinder to hit the water straight. Nothing fancy here, just taking advantage of "more is better". The setup will outfish ANYTHING around when baited up with live baby bunker.

How come I can't catch a Striper Bass? Bass Fishing
Stripers wack your live or dead bait constantly, yet every time you attempt to set the hook they get away right? Never, never attempt to set the hook on a Striper until he starts his second run away from you. Stipers pick up their bait (Pogy/Menhaden) and run like the dickens for sometimes up to 150 yards, then THEY STOP, FLIP THE BAIT AROUND, AND SUCK IT DOWN HEAD FIRST. Once they have swallowed their prize they then begin to move slowly away to digest their catch. THAT'S WHEN YOU SET THE HOOK. ;-) Also, do not use steel leaders during Striper Season. When they pick up the bait to make their first run they detect the metal and spit out the bait. Use 50 or 60 pound test mono leaders around 4 foot long.
