Nick Simonson, 26, is an avid fisherman, hunter and writer from Valley City, ND. He has been an outdoor journalist for five years, writing his column "Our Outdoors" for his hometown newspaper, the Valley City Times-Record, for the past four. He has been fishing since he was three years old, but was only recently introduced to hunting.

He is an avid bass angler amidst the walleye crazed populace of North Dakota, having grown up on the Sheyenne River chasing after the wily smallmouth bass each summer. He also enjoys persuing largemouth bass in the Detroit Lakes, MN region and in southeastern North Dakota. Though bass are his primary quarry, Simonson also enjoys jigging for river walleyes and spring pike fishing as well as fly fishing for bass and panfish.

Simonson is a firm believer in catch-and-release fishing for sportfish such as bass, trout and muskie, and a strong supporter of selective harvest for table fare fish such as walleye, pike and panfish. He has registered numerous catch-and-release whoppers with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department over the past five years.

Since starting hunting in 2002, Simonson has become an extremely devout pheasant hunter. Each fall his pursuit of the bird stretches across the state from near his hometown in the east, to the old family farmstead near Watford City in the west.

Simonson is a 2001 graduate of the University of Florida and a 2004 graduate of the University of North Dakota School of Law. He practices law with a firm in his hometown.
