Fishing InformationFished Northern Canada for close to 40 years. The last 17 with Ganglers, both Reindeer Lake & The North Seal River Lodge in Northern Manitoba. The stories I could share are endless. Bears, being trapped by ice, forest fires,I could go on & on. I have fished the canyons of New Jersey, the Gulf Stream off Florida & the bush of Canada.I have fallen overboard, broke rods, lost big fish, but never ever did I lose a rod overboard. My wife, Dianne & I went to Ganglers North Seal River Lodge for a week. We both had bad colds. The weather turned with rain & a drop in temperature. The Lodge was great as always, but with bad colds & tough weather, it was a challenging week. The last day, we did a fly-out.Dianne,on her first cast, catches a 43" Great Northern.I was thrilled, the week was ending on a high note.We were fishing in 15 to 20 feet of water over cabbage beds in August.Dianne hooks anothern big Northern.I turned to watch & my rod is ripped out of my hand & stump by a tremendous hit. The wind is blowing about 20 & Dianne is fighting her fish.By the time Dianne lands her fish, we have drifted at least 75 yards. My guide Big Al, asked what happened? I was so upset, I was ready to throw myself,my tackle box & Big Al overboard. After I calmed down, I told him the last, I saw of my Loomis rod & Shimano Stella reel,it disappeared in 20 feet of water, I said no way would we find it after drifting this far. Big Al asked for my biggest lure. I gave him a big red-eye & he cast for about 20 minutes & said I got something. Out of the water came my rod.I grabed it & started to reel in & 5 minutes later a 46 inch "Great Northern" was in the boat & then released. In one hour my emotions went from a high to a low to a high. Thanks to my Dianne & Big Al for a great memory!! Personal BackgroundBoat InformationMy Fishing Favorites
