Fishing Information
My brother and I fish together alot, 9 out of 10 times I go I am with him. This is a story about the one that got away...TWICE! It was my brother it got away from and he hates this story, but I love it, it makes me laugh just thinking about it. It was May of 2004 and we were fishing Blackwood Lake, NJ. My brother was fishing the dam and the dam's complete area covers only 1/8 of an acre. He was fishing with shiners and he got the bite of a lifetime! When he set the hook the bass took off and almost pulled him off the barrier. He tried to loosen his drag but in a blink of an eye his 10lb test Power Pro snaped right above the bobber. This bass had to be at the very least 9lbs. He was in agony for weeks. Now... fast-fowarding to December 2004, we are fishing the same dam, same bait, and you guessed it same fish on! Now, you have to understand that this fish lives in a very small area with no where to go, so the chances of hooking this fish again are very likely. But this time after he sets the hook he notices that his drag is set to loose. This fish is swimming all over the place, going left and right faster then windsheild wipers! Pulling his line out yards at a time he had to do something, but this time he had 20lb test Power Pro on and he was more confident. As he is trying to tighten the drag, he grabs the line against his rod... AND IT SNAPS!!! The moral of this story, beside the fact that it makes ME laugh, is you never truly know how big a fish is until you land it. To my brother Frank, my heart goes out to you..........HA HA HA HA!!!!
Personal Background
I have been a long time fisherman. I can remember as far back as being 3 years old and starting fishing. The reason I can remember so far back is because those were some of the happiest times of my life. My father would take my two brothers and I fishing every weekend at Kirkwood lake in Sommerdale, NJ. My oldest brother would catch the biggest carp, they were bigger than me at the time being only 3 years old, My other brother would catch everything in the lake, sunnys, carp, catfish, bass, turtles, crappie. Me, pretty much just sunnys and catfish...Sparingly. I remember one time I caught a turtle and nearly fell in the water I was so excited! My dad was always a little tipsy and he would walk the beams over the waterfall and fall in. It was the most memorable time of my life. From the age of 6 to about the age of 22, I fished about 8 years out of the 16. After my father died my older brother,(not my oldest,) got me into bass fishing and I have been hooked ever since. I go fishing for bass year round, even in the coldest weather with some success. I have fell in love with bass fishing and I don't think I will ever stop going. I would rate my skills as slightly above average, but the more I go the better I get!
I'm a fairly young man, I have no kids and I am not married. I am a sales manager for a staffing company and for the most part get off early in the day. Since I get off so early I can always take advantage of doing some dusk fishing and pulling in those big bass.
