My all time best: While fishing with 4 buddies in the surf off of Louisiana with live finger mullet, we were having an outstanding day until the sharks arrived. The "specks" were still biting but we pulled in more heads than bodies. Buddy standing next to me (about 20 feet away)had a small shark grab a trout within arms length and went up my buddy's chest and over his shoulder. This greatly disturbed my buddy who began running toward the beach. As he was running he kept screaming that the shark was hitting him on the back. At this time he was in " Full Bore Linear Panic" as Patrick McManus would say. This then greatly disturbed me and I started toward the beach to help my buddy (yeah right!) An amazing thing happened when he got in near the shore. The attacking shark turned out to be his floating live bait bucket! We all had a great laugh at his expense but this was not the funniest part. During my buddy's mad dash for shore, his fishing equipment was mauled so he had to go to the truck and re-rig. As he was rigging up an elderly gentleman who had been watching us walked up and asked if the fish were biting to which my buddy said " the sharks sure are!). The elderly gentleman remarked "yeah, those yellow headed bucket mouths get pretty aggressive this time of year". This happened 11 years ago and my buddy will get another ZING after I finish typing this.
