During the past 20 years, I have been a full time guide in Northeast Wisconsin. While I fish for all species of fish, I specialize in smallmouth bass, walleye and musky. Much of my time is spent fishing rivers, where I feel much of my expertise lies. Through my years guiding, I have managed to put 40-pound musky, 20-pound pike, 7 pound smallmouth, 7 pound largemouth and 12 pound walleye in my boat from waters of northeast Wisconsin.

While I fish numerous lakes and flowages in Marinette, Oconto and Florence County much of my guiding is on the Menominee River. This remote river forms the border between Wisconsin and upper Michigan. Along with continuous action with smallmouth bass and walleye, anglers will enjoy wilderness aesthetics. While fishing it is common to see bald eagles, osprey, deer, otter and other wild life. There is no better place to relax and get away from it all than on the Menominee River.

However, it is the fishing that draws most people to the river. Many days we fish all day and never see another boat or signs of civilization. High winds and cold fronts can devastate fishing on many lakes, but not on the Menominee River. There is always something happening on the river. Each year I venture into new areas of the river that are a virgin fishery. It is possible to catch 100 plus smallmouth or walleye on the river.

Each year we boated 50 smallmouth over 20 inches while the average smallmouth is 16 inches. The largest smallmouth we encountered went 23 inches. Although we practice catch and release with smallmouth, there are plenty of walleyes for those looking to take fish home. Walleye action is hot whatever the season. In fact, mid summer fishing is great, when most lakes are shut down. In fall, big walleyes go on the feed and 10 pound walleyes are caught on occasion. There is also a musky population in the Menominee River and each year we boat trophy fish. The best musky action is September and October. The Menominee River is one place where you can enjoy peace and quiet, see few other fishermen and catch a boatload of fish.

Much of my time is also spent writing for regional and national publications. These publications include: Midwest Outdoors, Wisconsin Sportsman, Wisconsin Outdoor Journal, Musky Hunter Magazine, Fishing Facts, Wisconsin Outdoor News, Badger Sportsman and local publications. Besides writing, I also giver seminars at Sport Shows and for many fishing clubs across the Midwest.
