Juni Fisher

Juni Fisher grew up in the central San Joaquin Valley of California, to farming parents, but a trout and salmon fishing grandfather took a seven year old kid to Crowley Lake, and a lifelong love of fishing began. She studied Agriculture in college, settled into ranch life in the foothills of California,(fortunately, there was a stocked pond as close as a 20 minute jeep ride away)and trained horses when she wasn't wearing out largemouth bass and catfish.

Jump ahead ten more years, and you'd have found her foxhunting professionally in east Tennessee, where she lived within 25 yards of a 5 acre lake, full of bream and crappie.

But it wasn't until another ten years had passed that she first held a fly rod, and seriously launched into fly fishing, with the same gusto that carried her through years of training horses, competing in point to point racing, horse trials, and music business. An accomplished songwriter, Juni has self produced an album of her own folk/western oriented songs, has appeared regularly on radio station WSM (the Grand Old Opry station) as a guest on "Opry Star Spotlight", in addition to playing shows from Tennessee to California. Check out KinkajouRecords.com, SongRamp.com, and e-folkmusic.com to hear and buy her album.

Of her start in fly fishing she says, "One Christmas, I got an Orvis Clearwater rod and reel as a gift. After holding a Winston Joan Wulff Favorite, I whittled the handle down to fit my hand, and made a thumb depression, so it would be easier to cast. Soon afterwards, I started collecting rods to suit the waters and fish I was after. It's an addicting sport!"

She fishes at least once a week, favoring the Caney Fork River, the Elk River, and the Duck River.

"Fly fishing has become such a part of my life. I have a whole set of fly fishing buddies from all over, and continually meet wonderful folks on the water. What could be better?" Fisher has added fly-tying, and most recently, rod building to her list of fly fishing related activities. She is currently a board member and Vice President of the Cumberland Chapter of Trout Unlimited, in the Nashville, TN area.

Most weekends will find her out scouting for fishing water in her trusty Jeep, "Trouty Marrowty".
