Fishing Information

I was raised in a little town named Madison, Ohio. It was a very rural environment and in the heart of farming and agriculture. It was a great life and I enjoyed all of the outdoor activities like fishing, hunting and trapping. I am still very active in all of these sports. I spent 24 years in the Air Force and was able to fish all over the U.S. including Alaska.

I have fished for almost every species of fish in the U.S. and primarily love to fish farm ponds and rivers.

Being raised in a farm like area, I was exposed to farm pond fishing and was adept at catching for all of their residents like bluegills, sunfish, catfish(most varieties of these also) and both largemouth and smallmouth bass. In Alaska, I fished for Dolly Varden trout, rainbow trout and 3 varieties of salmon. Overseas in the Philippines, I fished for many varieties of salt water fish including landing a 100lb sailfish. Fresh water had both Talapia and mudfish. I was stationed all over the U.S. including Ohio, Oklahoma, Utah, New York, Illinois, and Georgia. I guess the funniest fishing story I can tell is about a friend of mine name Paul Lucena who was fishing with me in Alaska for rainbow trout. He was using roe as bait and really concentrating in this one spot. I walked over to see what he was doing and he said "I am trying to get that rainbow down there to bite". The waters in Alaska are crystal clear and you can see most bottoms of all the rivers very easily. I looked over the side of the creek and peered at his area of concentration. Paul's bait was surely there and right in front of it was a think, long blade of grass wiggling in the running water. I guess he might need glasses..And of course there is always the story of the one that got away. I was fishing in the China Sea from a bonka boat(this is the Philippine version of a canoe with outriggers) and we were trolling flying fish for whatever would take it. Well, lo and behold something did take it and I was in for a grand fight. After about 30 minutes, and several jumps later, we say our foe. It was a marlin which we estimated to be around 300 lbs and on his last jump it spat the hook right at me. Anyway, I raised two boys, one of which is an avid outdoorsman like myself. His largest bass so far is 7 1/2lbs(quite large for an Ohio farm pond fish) with which he won a fishing contest. I was also a member of the East Ohio Bass Club for many years and participated in many bass tournaments. By the way, the only real artificial bait in my estimation is the plastic worm and it can be any color as long as it is purple.\(smile).

Personal Background

I am on my second marriage. My first one lasted over 40 years to a wonderful woman from the Philippines and she passed away in 2000. She was a great cook, wonderful wife and mother of our two adopted Filipino orphans. She also loved to fish too. I am remarried now to a wonderful retired nurse and am enjoying life with her and our RV trips. We have a total of 7 kids and 8 grandchildren. I started fishing when I was around 8 and have never stopped. I am retired and enjoying life.
