I used to fish the breakwater where I live before work every morning...to make a long story short, I hooked up with a striper that put up the best fight I have ever had, almost got spooled a number of times, drag tight as could be...worked him through all the lobster gear except the last bouey...he wrapped around the line, just laying on his side, dead tired...I coulded reach him so, I stripped down to my underwear and tried to feel for more granite to walk out on, the fish was no more than 15 feet from me, just then one of the old timers came by in his skiff, looked at me and said "wow, what a nice fish"....I'm like get your gaff!! Just as he reached for it, the fish came to life, kicked his tail, spit the hook and swam off...now I never landed the fish, but being as close as it was, I have to say it was 60"...what a way to start the day!
