Fishing Information

This isn't really a fishing story but it is a good one.

The first date I took my future wife on was to be a trip across several lakes, up the Wolf River and a few stops along the way. She's an outdoor type lady and thought that would be fun.

So off to the landing we go. I decided to put in on the Fox river at Oshkosh, great landing with a bit of current.

Upon arrival and backing the rig into the proper launching position she asked what she should do. Well, this boat pretty much launches itself so I told her to just hold the rope and stop the boat from floating away.

Everythings all set to go, all I have to do is drive away. I'm watching the mirror to make sure everything is going as planned. Truck moves forward, boat slides off the trailer, she pulls on the rope.

The next thing I see....the rope breaks!! She goes backwards, does a beautiful flip right off the dock and in the drink she goes. First thing I think of is, "Well, might as well load up and take her home"! But she comes up smiling and laughing...hmmm not to bad so far.

I jump out of the truck and wouldn't you know it. There's several boats waiting to come in and everyone of them are clapping and cheering. She took it real good and told them..."no encores"!!

Well, we recovered everything and thankfully it was a nice warm day, she had a swim suit with so after a quick change off we went.

Had a very fun filled enjoyable day. Oh yeah, she did advise one thing....Change the ropes when in doubt!!

Personal Background

Soon to be a real "senior" at 65 this summer. I am a retired Chief of Police after 34 yrs in LE with an additional retirement as a Master Sergeant/Military Police with 26 yrs service. During my military time I have had the pleasure (?) of visiting eight foreign countries for extended vacations, something every kid should do to understand what "Freedom" is all about! I guess I have been fishing all my life, or at least what I remember of it, with most of the interest being in LM Bass.

Here in WI we have some of the best fishing in the US. We have an abundance of species as well as year round fishing of one sort or another. Ice fishing for me is something I consider great for those that like to sit on a block of ice and catch a perch. In winter I enjoy my perch at the local resturant.

Boat Information

Boat name: Fishin Barge
This is a 25 foot fishin/pleasure craft. Lovie isn't really into fishing, unless it's blue gills that are on the bite.

The boat is equipt with two locaters, one on the counsel and the other on the trolling motor up front. Found that a power anchor is a real nice addition as well as the winch for loading. It also has a live well, auto on/off control. I have it rigged with lights both inside and out for night fishing, cats on the WI river.
