Fishing Information

Started flyfishing at 6:00AM EST. Water was cold and the air was colder. Pretty slow day, only seen a rise here and there. Had alot of trouble with the guides on my road freezing. I didn't even have a fish swirl on my fly and we decided to leave around 9:00AM EST. On the way back to the car a buddy of mine started casting to a stump and within minutes had a 2lb brookie in full spawn colors. This was a gorgeous fish at least 16 inches long. We then noticed that there were a bunch of trout pooled up and rising quite often. I immediatley started casting to schools of fish and had many chase, but none take. I kept working the fly, a # 14 Gray Ghost on 6wt fly rod, and seen what was the biggest brown trout I have ever seen start chasing. He came within a few inches of the fly, which was only feet from me and reached for it. As soon as I seen the fly disappear in his huge hooked jaw, I set the hook and the battle began. He fought pretty good right away, but slowed down quickly. There were brookies and brownes swarming from every direction hoping for a morsal of food to fall from the great brown I had hooked, but little did they know he was fighting not eating. Just when I thought he was finished, he would surge more and more. After about ten minutes or so, I landed my personal best fish to date. A 25-26" Brown Trout, which weighed at least 5 pounds. This was an amazing day of fishing for me, and even though that was the only fish I caught, or even had look at my fly, it was well worth the cold morning in the river.
