A Bed and Breakfast Inn selected by Sports Afield as one of the.. "Twelve Greatest Trout Lodges in North America"
To Joyce and I the Ozarks conjured up cartoon images of Lil Abner and Daisy Mae planting "taters" by the moonlight while across the holler Snuffy Smith was busy brewing moonshine.
With these preconceived images it is hard to express our delight as we first traveled the little two lane ridge-topped roads of the Arkansas Ozarks.
We found hardwood forests bordering lush river valleys...tail water rivers which have yielded world record trout... and mild winters providing year round fishing.
This first expedition to the Ozarks was also our last. We found our little river valley just downstream from the confluence of the White and North Fork rivers and even though there is a Wal-Mart super center in nearby Mountain Home and the little cow path of a road leading to the Lodge is now paved, the river runs clear and has produced yet another 38 lb. World Record German Brown trout.
Whether it's tying flies or telling lies the lounge is the heartbeat of the lodge. For that before or after dinner drink (bring your own spirits) or corporate presentation, the lounge provides the ambiance characteristic of an old English Trout Lodge.
Anglers from throughout the country take advantage of its fly tying areas as they watch rising trout through the windows. Hosting corporate outings, equestrian clubs and fly fishing for trout on Arkansas' White and North Fork rivers has been our specialty for 18 years.
Home made cookies, fresh fruit, coffee, soft drinks and mixers are complimentary.
Guests are treated to a hearty sit down breakfast. Sausage crepes, Belgian waffles, fresh fruit and of course bacon and eggs are among the morning delights served each day.
Dinner is a four course affair. Soup and salad, fresh baked rolls, steamed vegetables, baked potato, meat entrée, beverage and dessert are all served family style.
For the equestrian on a trail ride or angler on the stream a bag lunch can be furnished at a modest cost. Breakfast is included in the overnight rate of $90 US double occupancy, $75 US single occupancy. The family style dinners are $18.95 each. Full day guide trips for fishing are $250 for two anglers.
Overnight lodging for horses in private stalls with hay and oats are $10. Trail guides are available and rates vary depending upon trails chosen.
The ten bedrooms have private bathrooms and shower with decks overlooking Walnut Grove Equestrian Park and the White River.
