Company Description

Since 1969, Bill Dvorak Kayak and Rafting Expeditions has offered active adventurers and families, top quality white water rafting, kayaking and fly fishing trips across 11 rivers in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Idaho and Texas as well as international rafting trips in New Zealand and Nepal. We pride ourselves in having helped pioneer western river rafting in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Our river trips, white water skills adventure camp and guide training program are world renown and have been featured in ESPN, National Geographic, the Chicago Tribune and in numerous travel books and television specials.

Our most important priority is the quality of the experience you have on one of our 29 different river itineraries, be that a rollicking roll down the Class IV rapids of the Royal Gorge on the Arkansas River in Colorado - the mellow meander of our Classical Music rafting trip on the Dolores River and Green River or Colorado fly fishing fun on the Gunnison River

We believe we offer our guests a unique way of traveling downriver as we keep our trips small (2-6 boats) so that you feel like you are on a private trip. We have a superb safety record and were designated the Region III regional trainer for Swiftwater and Whitewater Rescue Training in 2003. We truly love leading trips into the wilderness of the “wild west”, where you can discover the beauty of canyon vistas, alpine landscapes and wildlife in its natural habitat while we cook up a little “river magic”, the special friendships that form between those who join us on one of our whitewater adventures.

Fly fish or spin fish for a half day or up to 5 days. We are happy to customize your fishing experience to give you the best value and variety in western trout fishing. Our fishing guides are experienced professionals who know the best spots to fish depending on the specific river and time you choose to cast off. Our guides and boats are set up specially for a maximum of two anglers. We use inflatable rafts as our craft of choice but also have drift boat “Dories” available by special arrangement on certain rivers. You are welcome to bring your waders for wade/walk fishing near camp or offshore during the day.

Our trips are fully catered including all boating equipment, delicious meals and beverages. Once on shore, we take care of the camp chores and cooking while you kick-back or keep on fishing to your heart’s content. Fishing reels, rods, flies and gear we recommend you use can be rented from us or you are welcome to bring your own. A valid fishing license must also be purchased in the state you wish to fish in which we are happy to help you with.

GUNNISON RIVER RAFTING 14 miles | Class II-III | 1-3 days

The Gunnison River is a hidden jewel tucked away in a remote section of Colorado’s newest treasure, the Black Canyon of the 13,000 acre Gunnison National Park. Beginning its journey west of Colorado Springs, 20 miles south of Hotchkiss, Colorado at the confluence of the Taylor and East Rivers, the Gunnison River is a white water rafting and fly fishing paradise.

This river’s malachite green waters have been awarded “Gold Medal” status for rainbow, brown, cutthroat and cuttbow trout fishing. The Gunnison’s narrow river corridor creates exciting whitewater thrills as the rapids wind into the 2800 foot high walls of Black Canyon and later into the Gunnison River Gorge.

Our trip begins at the Tail Race Fishery below the Blue Mesa Project. Accessible only by foot or horseback, a rafting or fishing trip on the Gunnison River is a wilderness experience of the finest caliber for those who are willing to go the extra mile. The one mile hike down to the riverbank with peregrine falcons souring above you is not to be missed and the solitude and unspoiled beauty of this river make this trip truly a unique river experience.
