Eddy
An indentation found in a body of water where a smaller body of water swirls back into itself. It is created when a current cuts into a bank. Food usually collects in this area, which attracts fish.

Edgebrite
Flexible translucent plastic material that comes in sheet form. Cut into thin strips and tied over a mylar tinsel base. This material glows and reflects light.

Elk Hair
Body hair from elk which is used in many fly patterns to supply body and floatation.

Emerger
An aquatic insect in the process of rising to the surface and changing to a flying adult form. Often will have an attached trailing shuck which feeding fish may key upon.

Estaz(tm)
Trade name for a chenille which uses colored fine plastic strips for the barbules. Can be found at many craft shops and yarn stores.

Ethafoam
A synthetic material used to make buoyant lures and dry flies. It is used in the Suspender patterns of midges and nymphs.

Even Up
To align hair or feather tips or butts.

Everglow Tubing
Shiny fluorescent tubing used mostly for fly bodies. Glows in the dark when charged with light. Popular on Alaska flies for its durability when taking repeated strikes. Comes in a variety of colors like Orange, Red, White, Yellow, and Green

Excess
Leftover material to be cut off or in some way hidden.

Exposed rim
Style of fly reel that has the outside of its spool as the outer frame, which as it rotates during line out is able to be "palmed" for drag effect

Eye
The part of a hook to which the leader is attached. A part often used as a reference point for measurement.
