I've fished Lake Traverse on the Minnesota - South Dakota border for the past four years with generally above average results. Walleye are plentiful in many sizes/weights. The sunfish and crappie are giants and plentiful when they are biting.

Lake Traverse is long, narrow and shallow. Fishing is good throughout the lake. The biggest negative is the wind. More days than not the lake is simply too rough to get out and fish. So it's not the best place to consider for vacation fishing or if you are just coming up for a day or two. It's better to come to the lake for four days or more and wait for a time when the lake is calm enough to fish. This will generally be around sundown if at all on any given day.

But this negative is what creates and maintains the quantity and size of fish in the lake.

If it were possible to get out on the lake more frequently, more people would fish the lake causing fish populations to diminish.

So if you have some time, and are prepared to patiently wait until fishing conditions ripen, Lake Traverse will reward you generously.

If you come for one or two days it is quite possible you will not get an opportunity to fish and go home very frustrated indeed.
