Ingredients
  • 6 to 10 pounds fish steaks
  • 6 to 8 medium potatoes-unpeeled
  • 1 to 2 cups salt
  • 2 medium onions
  • carrots (optional)
Directions
1. Add 3/4 to 1 cup of salt to 4 to 6 quarts of water. Bring to boil.

2. Add potatoes and carrots and boil for 15 minutes.

3. Keep the water boiling and add another 3/4 to 1 cup of salt(if using 6 quarts of water).

4. Boil for 10 minutes.

5. Add fish(in a colander or cheese cloth) and boil for 15 to 20 minutes or until fish flakes apart easily.

6. Remove and drain the food.

7. Serve the fish with drawn butter.

Other Notes
It is essential to keep the water boiling!..If the water cools for any length of time the fish will brine. The purpose of the salt is to raise the boiling point of the water, it does not salt the fish or food.
