Fishing InformationFishing stories I have a few but what really caught me was the day of my son's birthday. On June 9 of this year I gave him an outdoor birthday party in a local park which allowed us to fish the Hackesack River in New Jersey for carp. I gave him an Penn graphite rod with a 430ss spinning reel as a gift. While he was with his friends flying a kite that I had also given him, I decided to use his new outfit. So in the water the line goes but I didn't leave the bail open. All of a sudden my wife screams and the rod is taken into the water by a huge carp. I begin trying to cast for the outfit before my son finds out that I lost his outfit. On the third cast I snag something and bring it in.It is a fishing line that I believe is the one to my son's outfit as I get the line with my hand and bring it in it has a huge 25 lb carp at the end of it. I then release the carp which I am not interested in and proceed to bring in the line which I believe has the rod and reel at the end of it.All of sudden the line breaks, BUT I have an idea of where the outfit is postioned and how far out it is. I then start casting again and again and hook up with something. This time I go slow and gentle after a couple minutes with this fight the rod and reel shows it's head. I scream I got something as everyone gathers to witness the catch sure enough there it was my son's birthday gift coming out of the river. He was not aware of what transpired during this time. When I told him he could not believe what had happened. Remember... Keep an eye on those lines or those bails open...
