Fishing Information

There are so many...i'll get to it someday

Personal Background

Well I grew up in Miami, FL, where the fishing is amazing. I learned to fish in Key Largo where my grandmother had a house on a canal, so I used to catch mangrove snapper, jacks, sail cats, barracudas, sharks at night (with snapper carcasses), and if I was lucky, the occasional tarpon. I used to love making trips to the Everglades, specifically Flamingo, where the fishing was better than anywhere I've seen since. Rarely did I fail to catch a backcountry grand slam - snook, tarpon, redfish and seatrout. I used to love fishing little creeks that opened up into bays, at low tide. You could see the reds tailing, cast to them, and bring them in after a great fight. In my opinion, there's nothing better than seeing a fish, casting ahead of it, getting him to hit your lure, and landing him. It's a real feeling of excitement and then accomplishment when it's all over. I lived across the street from a marina in Miami, and I had a 15 ft canoe w/ a flat back where I mounted my 5 hp outboard. Whenever I could I would go out with my brother and our two friends, who had a johnboat with a little motor, and we would fish for hours, then when we got tired of that we'd build forts in the mangroves. It was awesome. I went on a couple houseboat trips in the Everglades, and also a camping trip during which we camped out on Middle Cape, which was close to some of my favorite spots: Big and Little Sable Creek, as well as all the little creeks and shorelines in that area. Anyway, I now live and work in CT, where the fishing is not as exciting. Moved here right before high school, so almost nine years ago. I really didn't fish that much in high school or even when I was in college (in NH), but just this past summer I really got back into fishing - bass fishing. I have a 15 ft canoe w/ a flat back where I mount my little trolling motor, and it's perfect for all the little lakes in my area. All summer I've been reading about bass fishing so I've learned an incredible amount, to the point that I now consider myself a pretty good bass fisherman. It's a good substitute for backcountry fishing in the Everglades, but my heart will always be with the latter type of fishing. So that's my fishing life in a nutshell.
