I am a 41 year old from south Florida. I moved here in "82". I spent first part of my life in Nothern Ohio, fishing on Lake Erie for perch and walleye. Never did a lot of bass fishing up there. AT that time was not into sport fishing, we fished to eat. Back in "78" missed the perch record by 2oz. Thought I had a sheephead at first. Got 2 nice perch sandwiches off that one. Was called "Fisherman Joe" back then. I had two stationary tubs in the basement. I had it set up so I could keep perch alive. You could stop buy and have the freshes perch in town. A lot of my friends were sad when I moved to FL. Also fished local ponds mostly for bluegill and sunfish. Moved to FL. and did some ocean fishing at first, then a buddy took me out to the Everglades for some bass fishing, and was hooked ever since. My wife and I travel all over central and south FL. for largemouth and peacock bass. This is bass heaven down here. I have a popup camper and 17' boat. We are strictly catch and release. The only thing we take are pictures. If I want to eat fish I go for sushi or pick up fresh fish from ocean or I go back home to Ohio and eat perch and walleye till I bust.
