Fishing - A Wonderful Time to Spend with Your Family!!

Every year we spend the summer in Nanmark Cottage in Lake Nippising, Canada. It takes about eight hours by car to get this beautiful fishing spot north of Toronto. We spend a week of just fishing. My family's husband has made this a tradition that has been passed down to generations. He learned how to fish with his father and grandfather as a child. His grandfather had a cottage facing Lake Nippising. Since he has passed away, they have not been back after that.

Five years ago, my husband's father brought the idea of going back up to Canada for the summer. Ever since then, we have been going every year back to where my husband spent the summer as a child. We stay just a few houses down from where his grandfather's cottage was. Each member of my husband's family rent a cottage for a week. It was five years ago that I was introduced to fishing - troll fishing for Northern Pikes. Fishing is one of the best ways to spend time with your family. I find pleasure in fishing because its give me the chance to spend time with my son. You usually associate fishing with a father and his son. The opportunity to learn how to fish came to me as a way to spend some quality time with my son.

What makes my fishing trip memorable this year is that I helped my son catch his biggest fish. My brother in-law, my son and myself took the Powassan boat for our usual fishing trip after dinner. Using a Berkely torque fishing rod and a Giants Killer no.5 for my lure, I cast my rod out to the lake. Shortly after, I caught and released a 3 lbs Northern Pike. As my brother-in law set as off on a new course, I cast my rod out and seconds later; I caught a 6 lbs Northern Pike.

Meanwhile my son has not caught a fish. Having had such a good luck with my fishing rod and my lure, I decided to share my lucky rod to my son. I told my son that it was his turn to catch a fish. A few minutes later, my son quickly jumped and yelled that he caught a fish. The fishing rod almost went into the water. I jumped and asked him to slowly pass the rod to me. I quickly reeled the fish in. This fish gave me a good fight. It was one of the biggest pressures I have ever faced with. I wanted to make sure that I didnt loose my son's fish. He anxiously watched me fight to bring the it. My brother in-law was such a great coach while I was trying to reel the fish in towards the net. As I brought the fish up, my son yelled to his amazement that he just caught a huge fish. We later found out that it was 13 lbs. You can check on his fish and vote on it by visiting the Trophy Room.
