located on the banks of the pristine Margaree River.
The BIG INTERVALE LODGE invites you to experience the majestic beauty of the waters and natural lures of the land.
The Atlantic salmon is the most acrobatic of all gamefish with long, powerful runs which can quickly empty a reel. It is this reeling experience that you can look forward to at our lodge.
We look forward to your visit and angling pleasures that our lodge and rivers have to offer.
Atlantic Salmon Fishing
The Margaree River has essentially two runs of fish. The early run usually starts in June, and the late run usually begins around the middle of September. This means that there are always fish in the river throughout the entire season. The two runs are genetically distinct, with the Fall run comprising more large fish and fewer grilse. However, the river produces about 75% large fish on average, so a good mix of sizes is present at all times.
The Margaree is always fished by wading except in its lowest stretches. Lightweight waders are fine in July and August, but early-and late season fishermen are advised to wear neoprene or insulated waders.
The pools range from quiet flats to some quite fast runs where caution is required when wading. Casts beyond 60 ft. are seldom necessary, but then we all know that the best fish are always just a little farther away than we can comfortably cast. However, many fishermen defeat themselves by casting long lines to empty water while salmon rest, safe and comfortable, on their boot-tops.
Trout Fishing
Trout Brook, and brown trout are available in the Margaree River as well as in neighbouring bodies of water. There is a good run of sea trout in the Margaree and an early run in the Middle River.
The Lodge is located two miles down stream from BIG INTERVALE in what James T. Gray, in his Handbook to the MARGAREE called, "the wildest part of the river". This is apt since it is common to see hawks, eagles, beavers, deer, and a profusion of wildlife along the river bank and in the meadows. You know you have arrived at a treasured experience upon entering the grounds of the distinctive architecturally designed lodge which offers comfort, excellent cuisine, and congenial hosts. If you are an accomplished tier of your own flies, then everything is available to meet your needs in our well stocked lodge. Tie your flies in the evening and break them out in the morning to land the big fish you had dreams about the night before. If you wish someone else to tie your flies, then, that is possible as well.
The emphasis at our lodge is your comfort and enjoyment of the natural beauty of the Margarees and a fishing experience you will retell for years to come.
Cabins At the Big Intervale Fishing Lodge, the cabins are nestled under giant maples and you are surrounded with the majesty of the landscape and the soaring beauty of the eagle in flight. Home to a myriad of wild life, the complex offers three independent cabins with two double rooms in each.
For your comfort each room has individual electric heat thermostats, two queen size beds, private bath with showers and service beyond expectations.
You are only moments away from the turbulance of the river and the catch of the day. After a day on the river, your cabin caresses you with welcome expectation of rest and relaxation. So, after you visit our web site, come on site to enjoy our hospitality and fishing. May your angling bring you abundant catches on the Margarees.
