Gantron
Man-made material, usually a dye or color which has high light reflective properties. Registered trade name. See DFM

Glo brite Chenille
Chenille flecked with pearlescent fibers, used for bodies and egg patterns.

Glo Bug Yarn
Fluffy yarn that is spun onto the hook to make egg imitations. Also good yarn fly winging material.

Golden Pheasant
The head (crest) feathers and the neck (tippets) are used mainly for the tails of lake trout flies.

Goldhead or Gold Bead
The addition of a gold coloured or brass bead at the head of a nymph or lure makes it into a Goldhead variation. Some beads are threaded over the eye, most over the point.

Goose
The herls from the shoulder feathers are used a body materials and are easily dyed. The wing cosset feather is used for winging wet flies.

Gravel guards
A device worn over the boot tops with stocking foot waders to keep out sand, gravel, etc.; also called "gaiters", or "gravel cuffs"

Grip
The handle of the fly rod. Quality fly rods have a grip constructed from cork and sanded smooth. There are many grip styles, varying in diameter. Anglers with small hands usually are more comfortable with a thin-diameter grip, while those with large hands find it easier to have a large-diameter grip.

Grouse
The neck and under-covert feathers are used for hackling wet flies and are sometimes used on dry patterns. The tail feathers are used for winging, ex: the grouse series. The covert-wing feather is also used for winging.

Guard Hair
The long, fine hair on an animal's pelt.

Metal circular devices affixed to rods through which line moves in a straight line

Guinea-Fowl
Also called gallina. The plain neck feathers have fibres which have small hairs on them. The fibres make excellent tails or legs of nymphs.
