The cahaba river has got to be one of the most overlooked places in the state for quality fishing. I only have experience with the area between centreville and sprot, so this is the section of water that i will cover. Unfortunatly for a lot of bass fisherman access will be difficult, for two reasons. One is the availability of public launches, there are two that I know of, one here in centreville, cecil crews historical park, which requires a nominal fee by the owner, and the other is in sprot, it is maintained by the state, and is free access. The other problem will be the vessel which you use. I know alot of you have large accomidating bass boats, but the unfortunate thing is that these are useless in this body of water. I would suggest a small aluminum boat with no larger than a twenty horsepower motor. Now assuming that you are still able to fish here, then you are in for a treat. As far as lures go you can't go wrong with plastics on this river. Any type seems to work at least somewhat, but my personal favorites are 7" pumpkin seed U tailed , 7" cotton candy U tailed, 7" red shad U tailed , and 7" watermelon seed finness worms. If plastics arent your thing, then spinnerbaits have produced well for me, predominatly those in white or chartreuse patterns. fish small ones, remember your primary targets are spots, and have fun. the pressure on these waters is minimal, so the fish arent finicky.IF you get the chance, try exploring this highly overlooked body of water. You wont be disappointed.
