Photo Information
Date Caught: July 23rd, 2002
Location: Lake Oroville
State: California
Fish: Channel Catfish
Photo Description: We were heading up the north fork of Lake Oroville and saw this catfish swimming on the top, (since it was bloted it couldn’t dive for very long) we slowed down and netted it to take a closer look. It turns out that apparently someone filleted a striper and threw the remains back in the water and the catfish tried to swallow it. After a few pictures, I removed what was left of the striper and sent him on his way. He swam away but I would be surprised if he lived.

Just a thought...someone may have brought some striper to fish with cut up? That could explain the circumstances??? The weirdest thing that ever happened to me while fishing was when I caught a 8" rock bass that had 3 OTHER hooks in its mouth plus mine...... it wasn't skinny or sickly? I was able to remove all the hooks pretty easy & it swam away like nothing was wrong! Unusual picture & gotta say that was cool of you to help that catfish...thumbs up!!!

This is in response to the last comment. I'm the person who caught the fish and took the picture. All I had to go on was the tail and what remained of the dorsal fin and to me, it looked like about a 7 lb striper. Since you brought this to my attention, I looked up the known fish species for the lake and it looks like your right, there are no stripers in the lake. Now you have me wondering what kind of fish it was.

I live right on lake Oroville, and fish it on a regular basis, and have for years. I was not aware that there were stripers in lake Oroville. Could someone please e mail me with information on this?
