Photo Description: My wife caught this on a crawdad I picked up out of the river with my pole! I had the bait out there for a while with no luck and my sister got hung up. I no more than went to assist and my wife was reeling this in on my pole! It wasn't weighed or measured, but I would guess 18" to 20" and from 8 to 10lbs.

ps The bowfins I have caught exceed the state records, the only reason I don't report to a fishing station is because I certainly don't wnt to go in the record books with one of the ugliest fish in fresh waters.

In reference to bowfins I live on pine lake in LaPorte Indiana and over the past few years have caught on average one to two bowfins per week. Now let me tell you these bad boys are not small they average 30 inches in lenth and have weighed as much as 18+ pounds. I have found time to catch them is after 11 at night thru 4am.
