Photo Information
Date Caught: Sat Aug 21, 2004
Location: Santee Spillway (Lake Marion)
State: South Carolina
Fish: Longnose Gar
Photo Description: This is a really special catch for me, it is a very rare specimen of a longnose gar in which the primary coloration is just black... it is like albanism but rather than being white its black. The other gar from the same area are very lightly silver in color with many spots... this one, just black.

Okay I am still looking for the first gar I saw when I started fishing. It was also the biggest I saw in real life, near 4 ft long. I would kill to get one like that Great catch.

So it's rare. That's cool, because the first live fish I ever saw in the creek I fish was a longnose - and it was black. That is real cool - the first live fish other than an aquarium fish was rare. Now I'm really interested.
