I've caught them well on 1/8oz inline spinners.

I caught my first yellow bass using minnows for bait.

To rig them I run the hook through the body just below the dorsal (top) fin, then take it back out so blood comes out. Then to rig it, I run the hook into the minnow's mouth and out the top of the skull. The hook should be barbed. Hope it works for you!

I have good luck with 1/16 jigs with a 1.5" silver shad body. Try the edges of fast water below dams. Don't forget how good they are to eat!
