sight fish these on crab pot bouys ,, they float next to bouy and look like a clump of seaweed, very bright color in sunlight,,which changes to black/brown on the boat ,, cast right on the nose , be quiet,,,great angling,,
I caught an eleven-pounder a while back in Waveland, Miss. while pier fishing for flounder, bumping a live minnow along the bottom. I'd always heard tripletail suspend off the bottom around buoys, or something floating in water, so I was surprised when I caught him. A fair-to-good fighter initially, but tired rather quickly after 5-10 mins on light tackle. Excellent eating fish with firm white and flaky meat and a good taste.
One of the most incredible fish I have ever seen. The only one I have ever caught I caught with a dip net in some reeds off of my pier on the intra-costal waterway. It's incredible to watch them change from brown to yellow. I seriously thought I had a new species until my uncle, an experienced fisherman, told me what it was. He caught a 21 pound tripletail in a shrimp net some years ago (probably a world record fish). As for fishing tips, umm pray you see one then scoop him up with a net and observe it, they are truly incredible.
