We had a great day fishing Aquia yesterday. It was the first time we had ever been there. A friend from work and I moved here from Idaho and this is the first summer that we have had an opportunity to fish. Slowly getting to know the area and eager to try out new spots. This was the best one we have hit yet.

Started at about 6:45 out of Hope Springs Marina. Headed up towards where the creek narrows down. Fished what I believe is Burl's Bay (the last bay on the right before the creek narrows). Had great luck in the weeds there using spinner/jigs or Senkos. Found some good drop offs behind the little island. No lunkers, but a number of 1lb fish and a couple that came in at 1.6lbs.

Then headed up the creek towards Aquia Harbor at about 12:00, mostly on a scouting mission since it was our first time there. Took the right when we got to the split. Spent the next hour or so in the next 1/4 mile of that water catching Bass, Catfich and Bluegill. Caught fish in the submerged wood, under the shade of trees, and along the many docks in this area. Using Senkos and spinner jigs.

Went up further and hit some of the pads that were in the shade. Caught (and landed) my first fish on a frog. I'M ADDICTED NOW!!!! I have lost so many fish on frogs trying to get the hook set. Finally gave it time to take the bait, waited for the pressure, then set it.

When the tide started coming back in, everything seemed to drop off as we worked our way back downstream.

Once we got out of the narrows back into the bay we fished Burl's Bay some more and landed a few more using a shallow-running crankbaits twitched across the top of the water very slowly. Was really hot just about sunset and then just stopped.

It was a great day!!!
