Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report 9/13/09
Absolutely beautiful summer weather has visited the Northland over the last couple of weeks, warming the water to 70 degrees plus.
Fall fishing versus summer fishing is the question, I say both. The most consistent walleye bite is at 30', with a minnow presentation. The presentation method is your choice.
Good reports from both folks using slip sinker rigs and jig and minnow. Alternate baits such as leeches and crawlers still catch fish especially outside the weed lines.
Pike bite is as it should be, aggressive, walleye anglers must now share the live well with nice pike, they are frequenting walleye habitat as well as weedy bays and shoreline weed stretches.
Stick baits , spoons and spinners all working well for pike when used in bays like Peterson, Mud, Daily and Nebraska.
Lost Bay can be an anglers dream for all species of fish this fall including an occasional crappie or two.
Small mouth season comes to a close this week on Kabetogama, however, border lakes, such as Namakan, the season remains open. Check regulations closely when transporting fish between border lakes and non-border lakes.
Bear hunters are still present as grouse season opens next weekend, it doesn't get much better than this in our corner of the world.
Hope to see you soon,
