A Brief History of Porto Cima A Waterfront Golf Community
Shortly after The Lodge of Four Seasons opened in the early 1960's, development began on the Horseshoe Bend peninsula of the Lake of the Ozarks.
Four Seasons has been the leader in the recreational and real estate industry at the Lake since that period. All of the businesses owned by Four Seasons share a common vision and have one primary function to exceed each client's expectations.
The parcel of land known as the Shawnee Bend peninsula has been in the Developer's family holdings for quite some time. Due to the location, this property did not have much 'value' as it was difficult to get to. Although you could virtually hit it with a rock from The Lodge of Four Seasons, it took about an hour (driving time) to get there since you had to go around the Lake of the Ozarks.
During a 1993 holiday to Italy, the Developer's family visited a quaint coastal village called Portofino. Upon their return, they brought back with them a vision of what they wanted to do with this parcel of land. Their vision was to create the finest golf and boat community in the Midwest, with a subtle Mediterranean theme. Porto Cima (roughly translated means 'Hillside by the Harbor') was born.
Although the property was very 'raw', development began and utilities were soon brought in. A relationship with Jack Nicklaus began and the construction of Missouri's only 18-hole waterfront Jack Nicklaus signature golf course commenced.
