A pork frog or pork crawfish can be fished without a jig by using a keeper hook. Press the pig onto the hook. Take an old plastic worm that is no longer useable. Break off a piece of the worm and push it onto the keeper. Then measure the distance past the barb on the hook and break the remainder of the worm off. Now push that end of the worm onto the point of the hook, past the barb. You now have a weedless pig. If more weight is desired, use a slip sinker and a bead at the knot. When fishing brush or vegetation, you are most likely to get strikes when the bait is fished weedless. Fishing the bait weedless allows you to work the bait in the cover where the bass are without getting hung up. The most weedless baits are soft plastics, like worms, lizards, craws and jigs rigged with the hook point stuck back into the plastic body. The point is not exposed so it won't snag on the cover. To rig this bait, I use a High Performance Hook. I insert the hook in the center of the head of the bait, come out about a quarter of an inch down, and slide the plastic all the way around the hook until it covers the eye, (be sure the clip is open). Then hold the line and see how the bait hangs straight, and observe how the hook would be placed in the bait to keep that natural look. The punch the hook tip through the bait at a spot where it would go through to keep it straight. Go straight through the bait and out through the other side. This will leave the hook point and barb exposed on the top of the bait. Then pinch the bait by the hook point, slide it forward towards the eye, and
then insert the hook point into the plastic. Slide the plastic back until the tip of the hook is covered. When this is done properly, the bait will be straight. Directions and diagrams for this weedless rigging can be found on the High Performance Hook packaging.

Sensitivity is always the key to catching fish. It is important
to be able to feel your bait and feel a strike. Gaining more sensitivity can be as simple as changing your grip of the rod. Move your grip to a position that allows you to have direct line contact. With a baitcaster, this can be accomplished by palming the reel or holding the rod just above the reel and touching your index finger to the line. Another advantage of this grip is that it helps balance the rod weight in your hand and reduces fatigue. With spinning or bait casting tackle, relaxing your grip allows the rod to transmit vibrations from the bait or fish. This will greatly increase the sensitivity. But be sure you have a secure enough grip so that you don't lose the rod and reel to the fish.

When you see your line moving up the the surfact, the fish is going for a jump. From saltwater experience with Tarpon, my guide taught me to Bow to the fish as it leaps into the air. It will give the fish slack, and let them jerk their head all around without losening the hook in their lip. Just do a simple lowering of the rod tip. It will keep your fish on a lot more. Working a worm Bass Fishing
When using a worm, there are countless ways to work it. In fact, im not sure if there is a wrong way, other than maybe skimming it on the top because your reeling so fast. Try using a texas rigged 6-9 inch worm, and jerk it a bit when reeling in. The jerking patterns should be sporatic, and spontaneous. The more you mix up the patterns the better. It makes the fish look at it like scared prey, therefore provoking strikes.

Spring Colors Bass Fishing
The sun in the spring, especially in the south seems to be getting more and more intense. This drives most of the larger bass deeper than 3 feet. At this depth the lighth is significantly less, especially in dirty water. The best colors that I have found to use in low light conditions are Chartruse or Pumpkinseed, and occasionally the blue/white mix depending on how bright it is outside. The blue/white for some reason has caught me more bass than I have missed on it. Hope this helps. If those dont seem to work for you, then try going back to your old routine.

Although worms, i know, are a favored lure of the pros, I try to use whats working for myself.
