Hello again LBF readers. I took a visit out to Burke Lake last weekend and I was shocked at the absence of fish. I did not get even a nibble. Maybe it was because of the rain the night before, but the fishing was terrible. this was my first time fishing the lake. I heard that the lake was rich in walleye and crappie so I paid it a visit. I will not count it out as a bad spot yet. I will give it a few more visits.

Until Then

I go to Burke lake regularly and I have never caught a thing. Nor have I ever seen anyone else on the lake catch anything. I know that there is fish in there because I see them hit on the surface every once in a while. I think the lake needs to be re-stocked.

been there about 6 times - caught one bass. terrible. tried everything. only think that keeps me coming back is lucky catch trolling a rattletrap. fought a blue cat for almost an hour and a half (no lie - it was ridiculous - kept constant pressure on him too) fishing with 12 lb. test and a medium heavy action rod. biggest fish i ever caught. maybe 20lb.+

Best fishing spot for kids to fish. To catch blue gills , use 4 lbs. test line tied directly to No. 10 fresh water hook using Palomar knot. Using self-raising flour mix with water to thick paste then rolled the dough into small balls. Use split shot 3 inch from the hook. The blue gills are in shallow water in the shade areas.

To catch real bass in this lake takes mountain of patience and time. Best bait is the old plastic worm working along the pier. The time to catch them is when the park is closed at dust and when you are asked to leave by the park ranger.

To catch the catfish you need chicken liver for small channel catfish. Problem with liver is you cannot cast the bait too far. For blue catfish, use the blue gills, white perchs, white shads as bait. Sometimes turtle will come up and bite.

For crappies, use a lure called Trout Magnet. Using 4 lbs. test line or better yet 2 lbs. test line if you can find. Cast it out. Wait for 20 second to let it sink. start reeling in slowly and twitch couple times as you reel. beginners tend to yank too hard to set the hook therefore ripping the paper thin mouth of the crappies. They start biting best around 6pm to 8pm.

The biggest fish I caught in Burke is 42 inch blue catfish and I released it.

Burke Lake is excellent spot to fish and to get some fresh air. To me fishing is Patience 101.

i went there yesterday used the wrong rod and line and hook. but then changed to a smaller line and hook and caught 1 small fish. was pretty fun for me. this one fish kept eating my bait for 30 min and i kept trying but never got him. i was soo mad i dont know how they keep getting the bait without hooking themselves

I went to Burke Lake yesterday and I caught a 5 lb. catfish. I was only there for about 2 hours. I went back today and caught 2 sunfish and a 2 inch yellow perch. I caught all the fish with nightcrawlers. I will definately fish here again!

I went there a week ago and caught a 10lbs largemouth and a 25 inch muskee. Then I went the week after that and caught an 18inch walleye. It was a pretty fun day when I caught them bass!!!

Had a great day fishing at the lake. Didn't try to catch any bass but instead focused on other types of fish.

Between my friend and I, we caught approximately 50 fish for the day. Bluegill, crappie, perch and channel catfish.

Did real well with the catfish. Caught 10 channel catfish in about a four hour period. They weighed between 2-5 pounds. Would have kept fishing for catfish but ran out of bait.

Heard mixed reviews about and was skeptical on going, however, after our experience I think it is a great place to fish in the fish in the Northern Virginia area. Will fish there again and we are planning a sunset/night trip to reel in the big catfish and musky.
