I have spent many years fishing and crabbing on the Sasafrass River outside of Galena MD. What a great spot. To fish the mouth of the bay at sundown is a wonderful experience. The sun sets right there and almost seems as though you could reach out and touch it. The fishing is tough, but any of the species you can hook can be a great fight. Using depth finders and charts you can find ridges and valleys that hold both large mouth bass and some huge rockfish, or strippers. I have also caught many large catfish, some nice blues, and even the occasional crab in the shallows while fishing in the late summer. What a great spot. The entire river and it many tributaries are teaming with wildlife including deer, turkey, and the majestic bald eagle. This is not just an area for fishing as through the years I have had the wonderful opportunity of hunting in the area as well. One of those farms along a tributary of the Sasafrass is where a recent MD record buck was taken by a friend of mine. The goose and duck hunting is also amazing in the area. A wonderful place to just visit, or plan a hunt, or fishing trip.
