Since turning professional in 1968, Ricky has established himself as one of the world's foremost authorities on bass fishing.
Ricky was one of the first major stars in bass fishing. "I've watched the sport grow from just a handful to what it has become today," he says. "The tournament pay is better and the exposure is growing. They young fisherman coming up today has a much easier and faster way to learn, due in part to the older pros sharing their wisdom with them, through how-to videos, magazine articles and books. The sky is the limit and the door is wide open."
Dubbed "Mr. Consistency", Ricky has qualified 14 times for the BASS Master Classic. He finished runner-up twice and holds the all-time record for the largest bass ever caught in a BASSMASTERS Classic - 8 pounds 9 ounces. This record was set on Lake Guntersville in Alabama in 1976. He has competed in more than 300 national tournaments and won prize money in approximately 165 of those. Ricky has captured titles in five national tournaments and won 8 Big Bass Awards on the B.A.S.S. Circuit.
Lake Baccarac:: Was stocked in 1978 with Florida strain largemouth bass. The lake is 25 miles long and five miles wide and is 30,000 acres at full pool. The lake record and also the Central American record were set in 1993 by Bruce Knutson of a 19.10 lb. bass. Lake Baccarac’s favorite friend and part-time resident, Sonny Talkington, caught an 18.11 lb. bass at Lake Baccarac. Mexico bass fishing at its finest!
Lake Comedero is a beautiful mountain lake nestled in the Sierra Madre Mountains 100 miles northeast of the seaside resort city of Mazatlan. Its clear, cool water is teeming with thousands of hungry black bass which will strike almost any type lure all year. Without any doubt, Comedero is the world's best bass lake for numbers of bass from 8 lbs to 12 lbs with some bass ranging from 12 to 15 lbs. Daily catches average 40 to 60 fist per day per boat. It is totally a catch and release lake. Comedero Bass Club began stocking Florida strain bass in the lake 10 years ago, and some of these bass now weigh 12 to 15 lbs. The lake record was caught by one of Ron Speed's clients. Chris Brewer of Iowa boated the first 18 lb bass. On that same trip, Warren Brewer (Chris' father) landed bass at 14 lbs, 13 lbs, and four at 12 lbs. Together, the father/son team landed 12 bass in excess of 8 lbs during four days of fishing.
Our clients stay in a small, quaint lodge which is reflective of the true "Old Mexico." The camp consists of four houses that contain four completely private, air-conditioned spacious bedrooms, plus ceiling fans to assure your comfort. Purified bottled water is furnished in each house, and is completely safe to drink. After a great day's fishing, you are welcomed to the camp with complimentary margaritas and hors d'oeuvres delivered directly to your room. The wonderful menu consists of a variety of foods. Mexico's Lake El Salto is located 50 miles north of the beautiful seaside resort of Mazatlan. Lake El Salto has thousands of hungry bass that are easily caught all year on a variety of lures, but topwaters, crankbaits, and plastic worms are best. Our clients stay at Club El Salto which is on the water's edge on the lake. Camp El Salto's design came from Casa Mar fishing camp in Costa Rica. It has been one of our favorite camps ever over the past 32 years. It is a four building camp with a screened-in circular restaurant overlooking beautiful Lake El Salto. The houses have two private bedrooms and an adjoining shower and bath combination. The restaurant has a large 20-ft indoor aquarium with trophy bass exceeding 10 lbs and you will be able to keep up with your favorite sports team at Club El Salto with its satellite T.V.

Lake Huites
Lake Huites is a beautiful new remote mountain lake located on Mexico's west coast. The port of entry city for commercial air travelers is Los Mochis located in the State of Sinaloa. Lake Huites was stocked in 1994 with Florida strain black bass and the fish have grown at a phenomenal rate. This explosion of growth is due to the warm year-round growing season, the clear, pure mountain waters, the tremendous food base of talapia, threadfin shad, crawfish, and blue gill perch. Also, its remoteness insures that it will never receive a great amount of fishing pressure.
Lake Huites opened to public fishing in October 1997. Fishermen can expect to catch 50 to 60 bass per day per boat on any kind of lure they desire to throw. The bass will range from 1 lb to 10 lbs and possibly larger, with many of those bass weighing 4 to 6 lbs.
