CONCORD, N.H. -- Calling all women who are wild at heart! Can you picture yourself cruising down a trail on a snowmobile, or trekking out onto a frozen lake to pull up a few pickerel? Whether you've always wanted to try snowshoeing or you want to know more about winter survival skills, you'll get your chance at the daylong Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) winter workshop coming up Saturday, February 21, at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department headquarters in Concord (weather date February 22). BOW is co-sponsored by N.H. Fish and Game and the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation.

This year's workshop is the fifth annual winter session of the popular outdoor skills seminar. Last year, 51 women attended Winter BOW, taking advantage of the chance to brush up on the knowledge and skills needed to pursue exciting outdoor activities during New Hampshire's cold months.

"Lots of women would love to get out and try some of these winter activities, but they've never had the chance to learn the skills they need to ice fish or snowshoe," said Laura Ryder, coordinator of Fish and Game's Aquatic Resources Education Program. "The workshop is a fun chance for everyone to get out and try something new, and some of these women are going to discover outdoor interests they really love!"

The winter BOW workshop is a single day, running from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. All classes begin at Fish and Game headquarters on Hazen Drive in Concord. Participants can opt for hands-on instruction in ice fishing; basic snowshoeing and tracking; snowmobile fun and safety; winter survival; or creating backyard wildlife habitat. Participants must be 18 or older. Register early, because enrollment is limited to the first 50 people who sign up, and specific classes are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants will be advised of a complete list of gear to bring to be prepared for the weather.

In addition to its Winter BOW workshop, Fish and Game and the Wildlife Federation hold a summer Becoming an Outdoors-Woman weekend at Squam Lake.
