New Books New Books
By Bill Vanderford

For the boating and fishing crowd, award-winning outdoor writer, Keith Walters, has a new book that offers a wealth of hard to find information. It is called the "The Ingenious Angler", and incorporates hundreds of ideas and projects that would benefit both small boat and shore-bound anglers. These include boat modifications, docking, trailering, anchoring, rigs and knots, making and modifying rods, reels, lures, and other accessories.

"This book will save you money while making fishing more fun," stated outdoor writer C. Boyd Pfeiffer. "Just one or two of the hundreds of tips will more than pay for the cost of the book."

"The Ingenious Angler" is available from the International Marine Division of The McGraw-Hill Publishing at www.internationalmarine.com or in many major book stores.

NEW FISHING LURE

Yo-Zuri has just released a new lure that may revolutionize topwater fishing. It is called the "Banana Boat", and its radical 'walk the dog" action is much easier to perform and more tantalizing than that of previous topwater lures. Add to the action the noise of steel balls rattling around on the inside of the lure and a gurgling and spitting of water caused by a unique "gullet scoop", and you have one irresistible lure! These new artificial baits will soon appear in most fishing stores.

GAME COOK BOOK

Keith and Theresa Sutton, owners of C & C Outdoor Productions, have recently released their first self-published book, "Duck Gumbo to Barbecued Coon: A Southern Game Cookbook." Most game cookbooks include recipes for only a few widely popular species, ignoring many delicious game animals targeted by a smaller percentage of hunters and trappers. "Duck Gumbo to Barbecued Coon" covers both bases. The Suttons have produced 235 simple yet delicious recipes for 24 species of southern game, including deer, bear, turkey, rabbit, dove, quail, duck, goose, and squirrel, and more exotic palate-pleasers such as beaver, raccoon, nutria, woodcock, wild hog, rail, coot, moorhen, gallinule, snipe, muskrat, crow, and possum. The book includes hundreds of game cookery quotes from noted authors, plus information on proper field care and dressing of game animals. 160 pages, soft-cover, spiral-bound. Retail price is $15.95.

Keith Sutton's recipes have been featured in more than a dozen game and fish cookbooks, and are regularly featured in his popular "Catfish's Cookbook" column in Mid-South Hunting & Fishing News. Sutton also writes on game and fish cookery in each issue of Arkansas Wildlife, the conservation magazine of the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission where he has served as editor since 1993. Sutton is past president of the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association.

Theresa Sutton is an accomplished cook, writer, and photographer in her own right. Her works have appeared in Progressive Farmer, The Rural Sportsman, Arkansas Wildlife, Crappie World, Southern Outdoors, BackHome, Mid-South Hunting & Fishing News, plus several books, and Web sites. The Suttons live in Alexander, Arkansas. More information or books may be ordered by calling 501-847-9643 or emailing [email protected]
