Don't forget to check your line Don't forget to check your line
By Dwayne Zboril
More fisherman have lost big fish due to not frayed line than can be counted. The problem with us fisherman is that we get too caught up in catching and not preparing. The one thing that can not be overlooked when fishing for that big catch is line maintenance.
After making a few casts check the line for wear and tear, such as abrassions caused by structure or the gill plates of a recently landed fish. I have made a point of checking this on a regular basis and my catch ratio has increased by a large margin.
It only takes a few minutes to check the line and be at your best when going into battle with a monster fish. Take the time to check the line so you dont have to tell everyone about the one that got away. Keep the line in check and the fish will come your way.
For better results and fewer disappointments check your line before each outing and during your trip if it needs to be replaced then do so.
